I have a 1994 f150. I just replaced both u joints in the rear drive shaft. Before I replaced the joints it was making a worse noise. Now its making a noise like some thing is rubbing on something else im not sure what it could be. Im thinking maybe the breaks?

I think you dun sompin' wrong. You got the Chilton manual or the Haynes? I think the Haynes manuals are better, they take a whole car/truck/motorcycle apart and put it together to make the manual on that vehicle.

Maybe the breaks ..... brakes ...... or, you've got the only one of those trucks that is done RIGHT and you need to call up Ford and have 'em listen to it so they know how they're supposed to sound from the factory

Could be brakes.

I noticed that you mentioned the rear Drive-Shaft......so apparently you have a 4WD? If so, the noise could also be in the transfer case/transmission.

Block the front tires. Jack up one side on the rear. Put the truck in neutral. NOT RUNNING.
Get underneath and turn the drive shaft by hand.
You may hear brakes rubbing or possibly a binding in the u-joints. Good parts are sometimes bad.

Take it to a brake place and have them give you a free inspection. The brakes have indicators that make noise to warn you that the pads are low enough that damage to the rotors is about to occur. Does the noise go away when the brakes are applied hard? At any rate a free inspection will usually find the problem for you. My vote is brakes, because it has to be a rotating assembly and everything else thunks or grinds when it goes bad. Make sure nothing is stuck on your driveshaft too. My DS ran over a piece of barb wire while backing up and it got twisted around the driveshaft and was rubbing against the tunnel. He did the same thing with a pillow. It actually got partially pulled into the tailshaft of the trans.
