I picked up a sack of feed at the feed store on Saturday and two days later my chicks all have runny stools. When I check the bag it's medicated. I didn't ask for medicated feed.

Will this hurt my chicks? I'm going by to get another bag of regular feed today.

Medicated feed has coccodiosants(sp) in it. I use it to prevent cocci in the young chicks. There shouldn't be anything wrong with it. It isn't an antibiotic or anything and the simple change in type of food could have altered their stools.

Were your chicks vaccinated? I ask because the only prob with the medicated feed is that I think it cancels out the vax.

Other than that, I exclusively feed my chicks medicated. I figure if it helps than I'm golden! My group is doing great.

And I agree with Silkie, just changing the food at all (even just brands) can have that affect. After a few days they should be fine.

Whenever you abruptly change feeds for any animal (cats, dogs cix, horses, etc.) they are likely to have digestive issues. The best way to change feed is to slowly add more and more of the new feed to the old over a week or two. Good luck!
