It has been awhile since I raised chicks from hatch. I am hoping I can get some feedback on the benefits of using medicated versus non-medicated chick starter? Anyone have any opinions on what you use and why?

It is very important that you feed your chicks medicated food. Medicated feed is formulated for chicks to help them combat coccidiosis, a disease that is found just about everywhere in the environment. This medicine doesn't "cure" the disease, it prevents it from happening. It helps them get their immune system established and it also helps them grow and stay healthy. Hope this helps.

I personally have never used medicated feed with chicks i hatch from my own flock..iv never had any issues. I think its just a personal preference.
If I buy chicks from someone else then I would most likely use medicated, just incase.

i have raised about 50 or so chicks in the last year and none of them have ever gotten medicated feed and have a been and are 100% healthy

you can feed medicated if you want but as Fred's Hens said there are some strains of cocci that the medcine in medicated feed cant control

Thanks everyone. I have never used medicated starter and probably won't this time either. I really appreciate all of the opinions!
