I have been doing some research online and have read a few posts from people that say that they feed medicated Purina rabbit pellets at certain times of year for coccidia prevention. I am trying to find where you would buy rabbit pellets that are medicated. Can anyone direct me? I live in MD. A Purina dealer in MD did not know what I was talking about.
Thank you so much

In saint Mary's county I had my rabbits off ground in 1/2" wire cages. I never gave medicated feed. I used to get my feeds from southern states. if they are still operating they might have a blend. Your cooperative extension agent might have a list of feeds available in your county Good luck in your search.

Coccidiosis is often a concern in younger animals. If your animals are older, unless they become immune compromised, they shouldn't have as many issues with it.

Just an amendment based on some research I did: it looks like the hepatic form of cocci can affect rabbits of all ages. The intestinal form (the original form I was thinking of) typically affects younger rabbits around weaning age (when the mother's antibodies are wearing off). I agree that keeping the rabbits off the ground with greatly diminish their chance of contracting the parasite.

I use Corid in their water for 7-21 days (depending on how sick they look) every couple month which seems to keep the coccidia at bay. Recently I had an issue with my younger kits having issues and still nursing so not drinking the water. They were eating pellets, so I put some medicated chick feed into their food bowels and they seem to have had some improvement with this. Probably not a recommended treatment but it seems to be helping.

For context, we have meat rabbits in several large pens, colony style, so keeping them off the ground is not really a possibility. We use deep bedding as well. Unfortunately, after a heavy rain spell, they always have issues with acute reoccurrences of coccidiosis.

Good luck
