Medicated vs unmedicated feed?

What does POL stand for?

I just wanted to make sure that slowly switching the feed to nonmedicated would be okay. I've read that stress can make illnesses flare up, so I'm going to see if the breeder will send some of her medicated feed along with them so I can mix them for a little while; how long after transport will they probably be stressed?

POL stands for Point of Lay...or when they mature to laying age.

Listen, raising chickens isn't all that delicate a process and you needn't look at all the horror stories on here and think they are typical. They are not.....been raising chickens off and on for 33-34 years now and haven't had any problems with switching feeds, have never fed medicated anything, never had coccidiosis or other illnesses in my flocks, never de-wormed any birds, etc.

Just enjoy your birds and try not to overthink it. Feed what you can find easily and what your birds will thrive on....simple as that.

Heh, thanks. I'm used to raising fancy goldfish, which are apparently a lot more delicate.. "Sudden" change in temperature, tank size, pH, ammonia, nitrates, nitrites, oxygen, or any number of things could kill them or stress them into sickness. I've lost good show breeding stock to heat spikes or changes in feed. It can be frustrating, to say the least. Their habitats have to be very carefully controlled. I guess it's a hard habit to shake.
