This isn't an emergency, but I am wondering. Is it OK to use Safeguard and Ivermectin at the same time? I have several girls with messy bottoms and am planning to treat for worms. I have the Safeguard paste to use. I have looked up the dosage and figured it out for each girl as they all weigh different amounts.

I also have a girl who is getting bald on the top of her head at the back of her comb. She doesn't look to be losing feathers elsewhere, however. If it is mites, I want to get on it early before the entire flock comes down with a bad case. I don't really see any lice or bugs on her, but I am old and my eyesight isn't the best up close, even with readers. They all weight between 5 1/2 - 4 1/2 pounds, so is 3-4 drops on the back of the neck enough? Too much? Just want to verify I am remembering the dosage correctly. It's the cattle version, blue pour on. Do I need to dilute it at all? Some videos I have seen us it right out of the bottle, but I want to be safe with my girls.

I am also wondering how long Permethrin 10 liquid concentrate is usable/effective in a spray bottle after diluting it to use as a spray?? I want to treat the coop as a preventative while I am at it, since it's time for a good coop cleaning anyway. I know Elector PSP is better, but right now I have to use what I have on hand budget wise.

Getting bald on the top of the head can be from a rooster or perhaps another hen is plucking her head. Do you have photos?

I can't say from the Manufacture's standpoint how long the Permethrin 10 lasts once mixed, but I've mixed it up and kept it for more than 6months and it still seems to be effective.

I don't know if Ivermectin and Fenbendazole can be used at the same time. You'd have to do some research on that. I would think you would not want to give them at the same time since both "can" be used as a dewormer.

I don't have a roo, but I do hear a lot of fussing when they are settling into roosting at night. She is usually tucked with her head in the corner with her sister. I have NEVER seen the two of them go after each other. They are both Buff Orpies. Her tail is facing everyone else usually. Even though she's one of the 6 newbies from last Spring, she's larger than most of my older girls now. I haven't see anyone pick on her. I am just going to do the worming first, watch the spot on her head and if it gets worse, treat for the mites later if I see any on anyone. Thanks for the reply and info!

Here are a couple of pics I snapped of her yesterday. It doesn't look like the skin is broken or anything. I don't see any other peck marks on her comb or face. It looks a tiny bit more bare this afternoon. Couldn't get her to do another photo shoot though.

It could be happening during roosting when settling down. I'd see if it gets worse.

If necessary, since you have Permethrin 10 mixed up, you could apply a small amount on her head to see if that makes any difference. I'd put the mixed solution on a cotton ball or something similar, then wipe it on the head.

Do you see her scratching her head?

She looks like a sweet girl, the BO's I've had in the past were sweet birds.

I am suspecting that is what it is. Just wish I knew who was doing it. Yes, she's a very sweet girl. I don't ever see her scratching her head, but I do see her shaking it from time to time. That is a great idea about the Permethrin, I will do that. I am just glad I don't see any broken skin as yet. It's strange that none of the other girls that snuggle/pile in the corner with her have this.
