Howdy! What a nice friendly place to study up on all things chicken. I'll be looking for all sorts of information about raising hens, from nutrition to living space, health, behavior, and safety. We're learning so much already, along with our 7 week old hens. Such amazing creatures, these birds are.

Alright

BYC has a very useful learning center

Well now that you are here just pull up a roosting bar and chat for awhile with everyone and ask away with your questions and the learning center is a great place to get some very well written information on all aspects of raising poultry ...

Welcome to BYC! Gander007 has given you some good advice. What kind of hens do you have?

Thanks for the advice! I've been busy learning away. I think I've learned what kinds of birds I have. One Barred Rock, one Buff Orpington and one pretty little bantam of some kind, maybe a Mille fleur, but not sure. Just the three, all we have space for. Such a range of personalities :)

I like Buff Orpingtons for their beautiful feathers and their calm, gentle temperament, and for this reason I keep a few of them in my flock. If you post a picture of your Mille Fleur maybe we can positively ID it for you. If it is a Mille Fleur (which is actually a color pattern, not a breed), it is probably a d'Uccle, but only a photo will tell us for sure.
