I found out in the last month that meat chicks do not mix well with laying chicks. Meat chicks grow really big, really fast and the laying chicks that I bought one week later are not even a quarter of the size of the meat chicks. Meat chicks also hog the food and will just lay down and eat their fill. I separated them this weekend and the laying chicks are much happer to have more room to jump and run around and eat food without having to wait for the chubby chicks to get out of the way.
Question for the forum: anyway to get my chubby meat chicks to get up and move around a little? The only time I see them move is to go to another feeder.
