I'm almost positive you'll have some sort of crest there. Even if it's small. Crests are dominant on the chick somewhat. This always happened with my chicks. No crest when born, grows until it's visual and then gets pretty big for a half top-hat-ed bird.

Duck didnt make it. Duck passed away this morning. Not sure what happened. But Duck did end up with 4 friends the last day or two. My ducklings hatched so Duck had friends. Poor baby. I'm so sad this morning, it was my 1st baby chick hatched in my incubator. My first try.
thanks guys. i had high hopes that he would live, but he did hatch with a little bit of the yolk (i mean LITTLE) outside his belly, and i thought it healed up nicely. :::sigh::::
Aww, I'm sorry. Mortality rates with baby chicks generally are very iffy.
If it makes you feel better, be happy this wasn't in another few weeks or you would have felt worse with such a loss. It's always sad when you lose a baby.
I hatched my first chick last year and he turned out to be a rooster. Long story short, he grew more aggressive toward me and my family but I still loved him anyway, of course, because he was my baby. He got to my 7-year-old brother and that was it. Gave him to the neighbor a few days ago and I'm almost positive he's been slaughtered by now. Regardless of his behavior, I still remember him as the chick I once brought into this world.
oh i'm so sorry. it must be very hard to lose a baby. thats the one thing i'm afraid of with hatching and one of the things keeping me from hatching. i'm so sorry.
