Got gifted two Bourbon Reds about four weeks old I think. Since they're from Kentucky, decided to give them Southern names.

Any suggestions on cheap coop-run would be appreciated. I have ducks and chickens free range, but don't want to risk blackhead.

Thanks!

For turkeys, a 3 sided coop works just fine... if you can get free pallets in your area, making a shelter for them out of those is very cheap, just might be a bit of elbow grease...

Just an FYI, if blackhead isn't there, then no need to worry... I free range chickens, ducks and turkeys without any issues... :)

X2, I built a turkey pen out of free pallets, they get plenty of air circulation. Like RavyFallen mentioned, I let my turkeys free range with the chickens and have no issues with blackheads either.

Thanks! There's often free pallets on Craigslist. One thing though about free ranging them is that I have neighbors. I do have an acre that's fenced, but the fence is only five feet. I'm worried these heritage birds will fly over into the neighbor's and become dog food, or worse, the road.

Do your turkeys fly? That would probably be the main reason I'd want to make a pen of some sort.

Also, when adults do your toms get aggressive? (Another reason for a pen!)

Thanks! I'm looking forward to this experience. So far they are extremely friendly and will fall asleep on my lap. :)
