Fur-N-Fowl
Fluffy Dinosaur Breeder
Hello again everyone
I feel like I'm posting here quite often but we currently have a lot of things going on...chicks hatching, selling birds, buying birds, making new coops and all sorts. Such a busy month it's been!
However, regardless of this I wanted to share my new gold Silkie pullet with you all!
I've named her Fizz
She is currently at point of lay but I believe she will start laying within the next couple of days as she's not rejecting my Silkie cockerel's 'attention'.
Most people here know I choose birds to show which I will also breed from too.
I picked her because her leg feathering is so nice! Plus she's a much smaller size than my other pullets even though they are all bantam. Her crest also stood out to me...I seriously love the black underfluff that's under the gold.
When I got her she did have mud balls on her toenails but after a quick soak they came right off. She's in perfect health though so no worries there. However, I still treated her with louse powder regardless and she will be getting a bath in the next few days.
She still looks a tad scraggly at the back end but all my pullets did at that age and after a bath and a few weeks of waiting they fluff up lovely!
Luckily since Silkies are such a laid back breed, introduction was as simple as picking her up and putting her down. My other Silkie pullets just started eating with her as if she's always been there and my Cockerel done his usual jog around her that he does when he's excited.
There was no agression between my Silkies. The only chickens that paid any attention to her are our Brahma hens but they had one peck then ignored her. I think they find the Silkies boring because they don't bother to fight back.
She's such a tolerant and calm chicken despite her never been held before I got her.
She even went for a walk on the aviator harness I have for my white Silkie pullet
Before I end this here, does anyone know of any active Silkie threads? I'd love to know of one so I could have that as my go to posting place.
Anyways, here she is!
