Meet our new goats!

I'm not really concerned with their breed, they were sold to the original owners as pygmies but it is entirely possible they are crosses. Doesn't really matter. Both of you, how much should I feed them? ... They were only on a feeding scheduale of "what they stole from the donkey" and a few fresh vegetable treats a week. I want to put them on a proper diet, I read on the Fias Co Farm website I believe that you should feed anywhere from 1 cup of feed to 1lb..

Adorable goats!

Oh yeah, Fias Co reccoomends up to 1lb of feed for 2month year old kids, and for adult does 1cup to 1lb...

I was thinking, since they could bare to gain a bit of weight, of putting them both at 2cups, but gradually introducing this...

How small should I start and how long a period should I introduce it over? I was thinking on starting with 1/2 a cup to start each

I recommend a medicated pellet - and gradually get them to 3.5 lbs per 100 lbs of goat (about 4 cups/day). Naturally once they're to weight you adjust this for condition.

Alfalfa pellets and beet pulp will also help to bring them to condition.

All I have available to me right now until Friday is Rolling Acres Goat Ration, which I am using at 1/2 cup and going up. The only other goat ration I can get is Purina Goat Maximizer..nothing else unfortunately.

Did you decide on a name?

They sure are cute. I've got goat envy all over again. Just took DH to our new TSC and showed him how everything we need but the goats is right there, 1.7 miles from home..... didn't work.

Can you tell where they spend most of their time? LOL

And Hermione resting after an eventful escape this afternoon

I finally got a collar on Cissy, but only after she and Hermione went on a little escapade while I was out getting nails for the pasture fencing this afternoon. Came home to no goats in the pen! Turns out the gate latch was a little wonked up and they were able to push the gate open with little effort. Fixed that as soon as they were back in the pen! They seem way more relaxed now though, after going on a little journey to inspect the property. They were very determined to go and be in the pasture with the horses, but I put an end to that not knowing how Luna would react and being unable to catch them easily.

(Oh and It's Cissy as in Narcissa (from HP) or Narcissus the plant/goddess
