Meet the ladies...

Ooooooooo, chocolate! Now if you could get them to lay chocolate eggs.....

Why does all the good tasting stuff have to be so bad for us? Especially in large quantities, the way I want to eat it!!!

How many eggs are you getting from your girls?

Oh, I looked back through your pics at the beginning, and the one you think is Black Copper Marans might be black sex link. The Marans are still pretty rare and are supposed to lay dark brown eggs. The BSLs are great hybrids, very calm and friendly and excellent egg layers!

Oh man, I get on here this morning and the first thing I see is chocolate... Must have chocolate.

On average I get a dozen eggs a day from 14 laying hens all 1 to 3 or 4 years old. Right now I get 1 a day between molting, and a few went broody on me.

You could be right about the BSL. While mine lay lighter brown eggs they are my most skittish birds. And all of my black girls are so I picked one and she is working for me raising some chicks and has turned out to be an excellent mother.

This is all I have for the babies so far and they are cell phone pics. I'm going to make them a new thread in a few weeks to try and sex them.

These are not her biological kids

This little one has the cutiest white bum!

He had to get IN the water dish and dirty it more...

All five of the gang

Sooooo cute! Those pics are great, much better than my old instamatic with film!!!! Cell phones have advanced light years!

What a good mama! Did she hatch out the eggs or did you put chicks under her? From what I've read, it seems that most broody hens won't accept chicks that are a couple of days old. I wish they did, so I wouldn't have to mess with a brooder and heat lamp.

I had a little brown chipmunk very similar to yours. She grew into a pretty EE that lays a pale blue egg. Do you know the breeds of the chicks?

Please put a link here when you start your new thread!

The chicks are all EEs the grey one might be an amerucana. The hens were random good laying breeds covered by a blue amerucana. My avatar pic is their half brother. Same roo different hen. The hen did all the work, it was her first time and she did smash 2 eggs... :(

I will post the link to the new thread when the babies are bigger.

To everyone who was trying to guess what breeds my girls were I thought I would share what I found. I stumbled accross www.farwesthatchery.com and they had a chicken called an Austra White. It layed creamy colored eggs and they were white with random black spots. Found out my white hens are cross between an Australorp and a leghorn. As for the black hens with red necks they look to be a black sex-link. All my chickens could be found on their site so I'm assuming this hatchery is where they came from. Just thought I would share so if you see more chickens with the black specks you know what they are!

I know, I'm bad... I forgot to post the babies thread.

Here is one updated pic of the little chipmunk chick who turned out to be a boy. He is already off and on to better things. He found a new home with a bunch of girls. :) The little black chick turned out to be my only pullet. :( We will try chicks again next year!
