Meet Xena and the Kids

Hi,
I'm going to try and attach two pictures of Xena Warrior Chicken, who is our best mama. She showed up last year with 10 brand new kids, and then raised another 13 later in the summer. This summer she's got 10 kids.

She's trained all 5 dogs to not even look at her babies, chased off hawks and wouldn't let us close to her kids. Now, as they're bigger, she's not so fearsome.




Here's a shot of Xena with her main squeeze, Spurs. He's a proud daddy. He's been hanging around Xena and the kids now for about a week. He can't wait for her to turn them loose.

You could've named Spurs "Aries", god of war.

I love the name!! The first thing I thought of too was Aries would have been a good name for him. I was watching the show a few weeks ago (Netflix has the seasons on instant watch) and thought that would be a good name for my geese that I'm getting next week. Then my dad wanted to name them so I let him. She is cute and so are her babies!!

I had a black JG hen named Xena....the JG roo in my avatar is named Joxer!

Wasn't meggie one of the names on the show too?

Gabbriel was her side kick. Not sure about Meggie. My name is Meghan and I always went by Meg when I was younger. One of my firends in middleschools little brother called me nutmeggie and it kind of stuck for some things.

OK, I'm embarrassed to say that I just remembered -- but Meggie was Xena's twins name when she played a good and evil twin of herself. Meggie was the good one.

Xena is aptly named, believe me. We were sitting outside a few weeks ago and a Cooper's hawk swooped down at the kids. Xena took off after the hawk, and all the kids hid safely under the lounge chair.

Spurs is named by the large spurs on his legs. Last fall, he wandered over from the neighbors, marched up and down the road for weeks, never venturing in the yard. Finally one day the gate was open and in he came. Xena sensed he was the one for her, and that was that.

I've attached another pic of Spurs. He's quite a handsome guy.
