I am so sorry for your loss.

I think I best go check mine. This happened to another on here yesterday.

So sorry being that close is heartbreaking. I had this happen to me. The LG jumped to 106. I saved the one chick that was half way zipped but 3 other eggs didn't make it.

What sucks is that I had been having problems in the big cabinet bator with humidity. So I set up the LG to use as a hatcher, and since I have a bad habit of wanting to help chicks out, I MADE myself leave it alone. Well the windows fogged because of the higher humidity, and I couldn't see the thermometer inside. I figured because I have ran it the same position for years without an adjustment, that it would be at 99.5 especially because I ran it for 24 hours before putting the eggs in there this time.

So its kinda darned if you do and darned if you dont. Check it too often and your eggs die.... check it to little and your eggs die.....

Awww Cher Poulets

You have inspired me to purchase the bator on my Brinsea wish list as soon as possible...I worry about my LG around the clock. I'm on Day 18 and when I take out that turner the temps are wonky for like a day...what a nightmare you've just endured. I don't think you should ditch everything, though I understand the temptation.

Nature is so fickle, yet not nearly so much as what we are attempting, which is to mimic her. We can only be a shadow of her perfection. But that doesn't mean we should not try to give our chicks the best possible start in life after their own mommas--which often fail as well. It's truly the agony and the ecstasy...

Oh, soo soo sorry Chris. Anyone can tell the time, money, and heart you have put into your Silkies. Just don't give up. Be more determined than ever....and if all else falls, put them under the Silkiebator.

I always look at it this way, even if you keep one Silkie hen that's pet quality for the REALLY hard to incubate, you can put her to use for not having to pull your hair out worrying about temps, humidity, and power failures. And then she can raise it for you too. Just a thought.

A hug for your hard work...
