A bunch of people ordered together from McMurray. We ordered 130 birds for 4-H, and a few other people chimed in. I am one of them. 40 chicks didn't make it. Of the 15 that I ordered, none survived. I wonder if tractor supply has any day-olds in the pullet bin. I'm sure the birds will be replaced, but I wonder how long we'll have to wait. I only ordered them this late bc of everyone else ordering. My 5 yr old is going to be disappointed.

There was a lot going on with this order, and I had control over NONE of it. I couldn't choose express shipping, or the hatch date. I think the birds got waylaid at one of the post office hubs, and got chilled. Ugh.

Aww, poor chickies.

Where are you located? lots of us are hatching right now and someone near you may have chicks! I donated a pile of chickies to 4-H last year.

I guess the birds will be replaced, and the coop is only big enough for the amount I ordered. I am trying to not submit to chicken math, lol. Just out of curiosity... do you have any partridge rocks, rose comb brown leghorns, or dominiques? How about welsummers, buckeyes, or chanteclers?

I am fairly close ( a few hours) to you.

Nope. chicks in my brooder *right now* are speckled sussex, light brahmas, cochins, turkens, easter eggers and a few other singles that came from a split mcmurray order (salmon favorelle, langshan and some others). But lots of people in the NY thread seem to be hatching right now!

Thanks so much! for now, I will just wait for to see if the replacements make it. Maybe I will try to contact you again later if I want to increase the size of the flock or replenish next year. I have a bad feeling that even when I bring them home they are going to get eaten by raccoons or coyotes!

Well. 3 survived. Someone put my 3 remaining partridge rocks in with someone else's birds for better warmth. I thought they'd all died! But the 3 seem to be doing well. Thanks, featherz, it was nice of you to offer some birds.

Hatchery is going to replace the entire order. so if the new ones all survive, then the 3 I have are extra chicks, I guess. They are coming next week.
