Hello everyone.

I live in northern WI and I have named my coop, The Melton Coop. All of my chickens have names, and are my pets. Two of my hens have disabilities and are my house chickens.

I started my flock the spring of 2020. I bought most of the birds that I own from my local farm store (L&M). All their chicks come from Hoover Hatchery.

I have a verity of breeds in my flock of 34.

Astralarp(2), Black Jersey Giant(1), Barred Rock(1), Cemani(2), Dominique(1), Light(1) Dark(3) & Bantam(1) Brahmas, Speckled Sussex(1), Sapphire Gem(1), ISA Brown(1), Calico Princess(1), Cinnamon Queen(1), Rhode Island Red(1), Buff Orpington(1), Silkies(9) [Black(1), Blue(3) Paint (1 reg, 1 frizzle) Splash(1) Blue Satin(2)], Silver Laced Wyandotte(2), Midnight Majesty Maran(1), Millie(1), Majestic Onyx(1), and lastly my Barnyard Mix Rooster Orpington x ? (1)

I love watch all the different personalities that my chickens have, and how smart they all are. Then of course that some seek me out for extra love and attention.

I don't really have much for other hobbies. I do like making thing with parocord and cross stitching.

I have an amazing husband and three wonderful kids (17, 16, &14). We like to go camping, fishing, snowmobiling. We have 2 dogs, 3 rabbits, 3 cats, 2 parakeets, and 3 green cheek conure parrots for our other pets. I work at a bank as a teller, my husband is a landscaper, and my oldest works for Walmart as a cart pusher.

I found BYC when I was researching and learning as much I could before buying my first chicks in the spring of 2020. I decided to join so I am able to ask questions and continue to learn new things.

I LOVED your intro! I can relate to your "northern exposure" -- I'm in northern Iowa and am already dreading the special challenges of winter. I have a mixed flock of 25 outdoor chickens (two with disabilities) and a house chicken. Most of my birds are from Bomgaars, which means Hoover Hatchery birds, so I have several of the same breeds as you.

The flock photos were gorgeous. My current favorites (and it has changed over the years) are Cochins. I added three full-size Cochins and two Bantams this year because my older Cochin Bantams girls are so cool!

BYC is a great place to connect with other folks who enjoy their birds as much as you do. Welcome to the flock; it's good to meet you!

Hello and welcome to BYC! :frow Glad you joined.
I'm looking at Bantam breeds.
Be careful with that. You already have little broody machines with the Silkies. If you don't want to be battling broodies every summer, reconsider adding more bantams to your flock.
