Three roosters : Melvin is top roo. Red and the cochin are sub roos, not allowed to mate and cochin doesn't crow anymore.
My mom was catching the red to give him mealworms since Melvin always chases him away from eating treats. So Melvin attacked my mom! Not flogging, he pecked at my mom's face, arms, and hands. She hurts and had some blood! My mom grabbed his hackle feathers and wriggled him by the hackles and he calmed down and left. It's something we've noticed that chickens do in the pecking order so we copy when needed. Red was making alot of noise, I thought one of the dachshunds got to him. Why did he attack my mom?
The advice part =
Melvin is about 7 1/2 months old. He is a light sussex. So my mom wants to get rid of him... I gave her the speech about Charlie and now she knows how I felt when that miserable BR flogged me several times. But he is the only one making babies successfully right now. Red has left a bald patch on Moochie's neck from his really bad mating techniques, which I don't appreciate my Moochie's feathers being pulled out by a doofus-mating rooster. Although Red is quite the beauty. The cochin isn't what I call a gorgeous roo, but he's nice. Melvin is going bad and is hurting my mom... But I payed 20 bucks for him and I think he is the ultimate beauty, who will make beautiful mutts with my various pullets and hens. I want to find him a good home! But then again I don't want him to turn into a Charlie.
My mom just said "maybe we shouldnt have any roosters" I replied "I need good baby makers!!"
What to do what to do

If you get rid on one roo another will replace, and if you are lucky he will be human-tolerant / scared if you are not he will be human aggressive.

Also the new head roo will make babies for you no problem-

Now unless you plan to keep all of the chickens created realize its hard to place mutt chickens (at least in my area), and half of them will be roos.

You need to cull a roo like that. The odds that he'll quit doing it are not very good and they can do a lot of damage....especially to a child.

We have 5 eggs a broody is sitting on at the moment. It's day 12 and hopefully we'll have a few that hatch. I know it's not 100% and she may snap out of brooding if mother nature wants her too. They'd be sussex/cochin or sussex/nhr crosses too. Shouldn't be too hard to find them homes. I was thinking of getting hatching eggs for her instead but I'm not sure if she would adopt them or not.
I fear because Melvin being a dual purpose breed, and if my mom took him to the auction, someone would eat him. Plus I saw how some people were handling birds. Grabbing by their legs and feet and putting them head first in cages. I always hold my chickens like one would with a small dog. It was just freaky to me.
We thought Melvin would split the flock like Charlie did... Every roo IS different though. Still thinking about it...

Melvin has never attacked me though. At night I pet him and massage his head, earlobes, and stroke his back. I think he finds these things enjoyable.
