Before digital tv you had analog. You actually had to tune into a channel. Even if a channel didn't quite come in you could still kinda watch it. Sometimes it was just about moving the antenna just right. Nowadays though if the channel doesnt come in your tv just says weak signal. But channels that didnt quite come in would be broken up visually sometimes kinda pixelated and sometimes with bars of static running through them.
