Membrane around the egg

Hi,

I am hoping someone can help me or give me information. The chicken I have are laying eggs each day. I have a total of six and I know there is only 5 laying eggs. I believe that the 6th hen started laying today, but the egg was developed but it had a clear membrane, sack around the egg. Looking for information as to what and why this happened. The hens are just about 10 months old,

do you mean it was a shell-less egg? In any case when they first start laying - they sometimes have odd eggs to their systems figures everything out.

X2 the above. Soft-shell, shell-less and other odd eggs are common with new layers. Give her time to work the kinks from her system and make sure she has what she need nutrient-wise, plenty calcium etc.
