Memorial thread

I have lost 2 ducks last year. The small gray one had some developing problems and was only half the size of the others. We knew she was going to die eventually so we just tried to make her life good towards the end. Her name was Alex.
My white pekin, named Messi, well we don’t really know what happened but she was super sweet. She loved being let under her bill and then she would purr like a cat

I wish I had some pictures of my buff Orpington I had but I don’t... she was very very very nice and cuddly! She was more like a therapy chicken really!

I know this thread is for poultry but I’m gonna throw in my kitty that passed this last summer. His name was Mbappe and he wasn’t to much of a cuddler but he was a great mouser and fiercely protected my other cat, Neymar. Neymar still misses Mbappe and will go to the corner of the chicken coop where they would always sleep at and Lie down. They both would sleep in the same position too it was kinda weird.

Thank you so much for starting this thread. When my husband and I first started 'dating' we decided to build a coop, order chicks and sell eggs. We ordered 25 white leghorns and eagerly awaited their arrival. Upon arrival we noticed an extra chick of an unknown breed was thrown in as a little gift from the hatchery. Being the only different chick in mass of yellow 'she' became sort of a pet so we named 'her' Martha. Fast forward some months later and my precious little chicks are full grown and displaying their own little personalities and such. As had happened to many chicken keepers, my little Martha, whom I thought at the time was a hen, crowed for the first time. What am I to do? I'm now stuck with a pet rooster named Martha! :lau Well, being he already listened to his name and was a VERY friendly rooster, we decided to keep him as a pet with my other girls.
Fast forward two years later and the most tragic of events happened. We were gone for a weekend visiting old friends and had a family member take care of our flock, let them out in the morning, feed, water, and close the door at night. Well they did all of the following except shut the coop door... I come home to all of my sweet chickens slaughtered, even my poor Martha wasn't spared from the predator.:hit

After taking a few years off from chicken keeping we finally decided we're ready to have another flock. We've decided to name our new coop "Martha's Roost", in honor of Martha the rooster.

2018 was a tough year. A mink killed Mia, Ginger Rogers and Samantha -- my original laying hens -- well as Hadley, one of my original runner ducks. Lady Emma and Lady Louise, a pair of Iowa Blues, also left us. Emma had a tumor and Louise was a victim of the buffalo gnat invasion that killed birds all over Iowa. RIP, my sweet birds; you are all missed.

Here's to all those who lost flock members in 2018, and to a happier 2019.
