But seriously, a flogging rooster can be dangerous. Go to the meat bird section and check out the ins and outs of butchering a chicken. Its not that hard, I do it by myself most of the time. If you're feeling up to it, do the deed when DH is away. You say he didn't want them to begin with? So, I would assume you take care of the chickens, which means you are the one in danger of getting flogged everyday. You are the head chicken, do whats best for your flock. There are lots of good roosters out there, I'm just saying...

I have a rooster and I as having problems with him wanting to atack me.I have a straw broom at my chicken coop that came in real handy.I chased him around the run and every time he stopped I got him with the straw end. After the second or third time I had no more problem. If I pick up the broom he swauks.I can go into the run without it and he does fine.Hes not afraid of me but leaves me alone.Try it.It doesn't hurt them.

We had a mean rooster when I was growing up. I WILL NOT have a mean one again. We had one or two the first year we had chickens. None since. Both went to the stew pot.

We have lots of roos right now, but we are going to process the first batch today. Kind of sad, since they aren't nasty, but that's how we get chicken in the freezer...

you should rough him up a bit so he's scared of you, he only flogs you cause he thinks your weak. Kick his butt! which hurts more? getting beat up or killed? good luck

The same thing happend at our house, I kept hearing "he's just protecting his ladies" !!!!!! Then it happened the roo attacked DH and it was to the crock pot with him.

i looked at your web page and saw about the battery hens. i had read and seen about them before. it really hurts my heart. why is this allowed to happen to chickens when it is known to the public as to how they are treated. is this not animal abuse and against the law some way? also i live in alabama how could i adopt one of these hens?
