We just got two silkies a couple weeks ago and one of the is acting strange. In the brooder she sleeps a lot and stays in a corner and when the other chickens run out to explore she just stays put. When we try to pick her up she flaps aggressively and starts screaming and then she closes her eyes but she is shaking vigorously. She also just doesn’t seem to be all there. Should we be concerned? She is eating and drinking just fine.

Welcome To BYC

Can you post some photos of her and her poop?
How old is she?

I would start by giving her some vitamins to see if she needs a boost. Do you have Poultry Nutri-Drench or Poultry Cell?

Thanks for the response! Here are some pictures. We think she is about two weeks old. The other chicken is one of our slightly older Ameraucanas.

We have a heat lamp in their brooder but they usually hang out away from it. I don’t know if it’s because they’re too hot or if they are just nervous about the door because the lamp is right next to the door. Also thank y’all for the welcome!

Our Plymouth Rock was like this when she was a chick. They act like that young but kinda adjust as they get older but a warning they get bullied a lot by the other chickens, don’t defend themselves and usually just stay alone. Btw my Plymouth Rock’s name is Muffin and I really suit her so if you don’t have a name think of something like that

Also they tend to need a little more TLC and love snuggling ❤️

Cute!
You have an age difference there, that could be one reason she's staying by herself.
Does she walk o.k., eat/drink?

She may require more heat than the older feathered out chicks.
She seems to eat and drink just fine and both the silkies look kind of strange when they walk but I think it’s just because of the feathers on their feet.
