Mentor, OH - want to raise chickens! Who's with me?

If put to a vote, would you vote to allow a maximum of 3 laying hens per half acre?

The city is such a pain with this regulation. I grew up in California on 1/2 acre and had a backyard farm. Chickens, ducks, two turkeys and a pigmy goat. We had no smell issues because we kept everything clean. I would love nothing more than to raise chickens with my kids just like I was able to do growing up. I live on 1/4 acre in a quiet neighborhood with a fenced in backyard. I think it is crazy that Mentor criminalizes keeping a few chickens. If there is any movement on this, I would love to be a part of it. I am willing to sit in on a city council meeting, help get signatures ect... but I think we need to show the city that a lot of us want to see this change and that most neighbors would not be bothered by it.

I live in Willowick and we do not have a ban. I have a backyard coop and Willowick yards are not big. I currently have 13 chicks and am waiting to see how many roosters I have and then they will go to a farm in Ashtabula. I know a few others in Willowick with chickens and some in wickliffe too. It's crazy that mentor deems it illegal to raise poultry. Let me know what I can do to help

I just found this thread and would love to be involved in creating a change! I'm moving from Kirtland to Mentor and am worried about freedoms like this being restricted! Has anyone started a petition?

I'm in Ohio and that is ridiculous. I had mine right in town in the back yard, no problems. Now live outside city limits with more land. Our rules before were 50 ft from any house. The 2+ acre min is a bit much. It's not a horse. You guys keep fighting!
