Mereks, PLEASE HELP

Hi! I have tried to get help with this but with no luck and it seems my vet isnt as knowledgeable as I was hoping. I have lost 3 birds so far. We had to put 2 of them down last night and the first one in thought was a vitamin deficiency but now I'm not so sure. I took one to the vet last week and got her tested for mereks, we got the call yesterday confirming she was positive so we put her and one other chicken down who was also showing symptoms but not as severe. Where do I go from here? My vet told me that it doesnt live in the soil and if we put her down and bury her it will go away in 3 days but what I have searched online says otherwise. Most of my flock is vaccinated and he told me they dont carry it if they are and they wont get sick but what I'm seeing online says the opposite of that. I have 15 birds who arent vaccinated, I used to have 18 with the 3 we had to put down. what do i do next? Any advice is appreciated
