Hey everyone,
Hopefully you all can help me out?
I am planning on ordering chicks in the spring, I have a small flock(8) hens, that are a sweet and healthy group of buff Brahma's & Barred Rocks with 1EE & 2 sex links. I have introduced chicks twice, 4 last spring and 4 a few months prior. The first 4 I hatched, and raised for 8 months then re- homed (polish chickens) the last 4 are from TSC, those are my flock hens. Should I have the new chicks vaccinated for Mereks?
I didn't with the previous ones, but that's because I wasn't aware of it... Just not sure what is the best for all the birds involved...
Thanks for any advice-😊

I always take advantage of getting my hatchery chicks vaccinated for Mareks. But the ones I got from a feed store or the ones I hatched here from my own eggs, were never vaccinated. That said, I have never had any cases of Mareks in 11 years. But since you have never seen Mareks before in your chicks, you would probably be safe in not vaccinating. Some areas are more prone to Mareks being nearby. But I would vaccinate, since it is an extra safety measure, in case it was accidentally introduced with a new chicken someday.

Yeah, I think I will, rather safe than sorry - I'm deciding on Cackle hatchery..or Mypetchicken. Both have great reviews.. the only downside is Mypetchicken can't deliver until mid July 🫤
Thanks for your input😉

I use Meyer Hatchery in Ohio. They supply many of the chicks that MyPet Chicken sell, without the middle man. They sell as few as 5 chicks, but I like to get a few more for safety. I looked at their website recently, and they have dropped some breeds and added new ones, since I last ordered from them.

I'm going to check them out...TY😏
