Messy Vent and Gray Diarrhea

Hello, recently I noticed that my hen has been having grayish diarrhea, and her vent and feathers are messy. Her feathers around her vent have been a little messy for a while, but the gray diarrhea is new. She is eating and drinking normally, and seems to be acting normal. She has diarrhea on her vent, and all over her feathers by her vent. I am not sure what is wrong, but I want to know what is going on, and weather or not I should take her to the vet.

How old is she? Is she laying? Is she the only one you have? How has the weather been, warm? What are you feeding her?

You could wash her backside or clip the messy away but agree you need to figure out what's going on. You could feed her some plain yogurt, put some ACV with Mother in he water (1T/gallon) = probiotics help. No clue what the problem maybe but I'm sure others will be peeping in with possibilities.

She is a year old, she is laying, there is one other hen, the weather has been pretty warm, and we feed her layer feed. I did give her some plain yogurt recently. I will try wiping her bottom. Thanks for the help.

One thing I forgot to mention is that she has a bunch of tiny scabs on her comb.

Can you post some photos of the poop?

The scabs on the comb look like they are from being pecked.

Give her bottom a wash up. Runny poop can be from a number of things - if your weather is hot and she's been drinking a lot or eating watery treats (cucumber, melon, etc.) that could be it. Having a fecal float performed by your vet to rule out worms would be a good idea as well.
