I know we have a bunch of Geocachers on here, but how about prospectors and detectors? I love to go prospecting, we are GPAA and LDMA members, and I always have my metal detector and pinpointers with me when I travel anywhere.

Who else does this? Maybe can get together sometime and do some detecting or panning?

I wanted a metal detector so bad a few years ago, never got one. I was looking at a Whites and just could never justify paying that much for one, but really, really wanted to.

Key West with all the CW battlefields and such in your area I'd be out on my hands and knees every day all day! Don't look at White's, go get a cheapy to start with, contrary to popular belief you don't have to spend a ton of money on a good detector. There are good ones for less than a hundred bucks and if you watch the sporting good stores they have them on sale all the time. One of my friends just bought a Lone Star for $49 and that is a perfectly good detector.
I want to hit a beach somewhere this summer, I've never done beach detecting and TreasureNet forum I belong to has a bunch of people posting their finds lately and I'm jealous!

I've gone crystal digging and gold panning in Herkimer County in upstate NY. I brought home a lot of cool crystals from there

I recently found out I'm not too far from agate country. So, Ill be doing that soon. I love hunting for raw gemstones, and have a nice collection going from over the years.

Metal dector is something I've always wanted....My friend always found some cool stuff when she went.

I've always wanted a detector of my own, but can't afford one worth owning, LOL. But I have gone in the bast with my uncle who owns two very nice ones.

My DH has a metal detector he bought about 6 years ago for waaaaaayyyy too much $ and I think he's used it 2 times. He also has all the stuff for gold panning. We went to a panning place here in mtns. a couple of years ago and even though it was slightly cheesy it was fun! I'll have to remind him that we have all that stuff!

I have a Lone Star Bounty Hunter, didn't pay a lot for it and I've used it for many years on my archeology work and PIT programs. YOU DON'T HAVE TO SPEND A LOT OF MONEY TO HAVE A GOOD DETECTOR!!!!! Forget White's, forget Minelab, forget Tesoro, you don't need those! You'll run into the die-hards who swear you have to pay hundreds or even thousands to have a good detector, that isn't true.
Check yard sales, check used stores, so many buy them then never use them and sell them dirt cheap.
I'd love to meet up with some folks to go over CW battlefields or beaches.

just about any time I drive down to Texas to see my family, I stop in Murfreesboro Arkansas on the way there or back. For those of you in Arkansas, you probably know what I am talking about right? If not, the Crater of Diamonds State park is definately a great place to spend a morning, afternoon or all day!!!!! It is inexpensive to get in there, you can rent the tools you will need if you don't have your own, and any diamonds you find there, you keep!!!!!!!!

Since going there I've met some really funny characters down there. Hermits who make their living by finding and selling diamonds. They always have a "secret" spot where they dig.....

Me? I love walking up and down the plowed fields, looking in the morning sunlight hoping that last night's rain has washed dirt off something.

for me it isn't about getting rich, its about... heck, i dunno, its just fun!!!!
