Has anyone else had trouble with the metal chick feeders cutting the chicks toes? Should i take the top off the feeder and let them eat out of it like a trough? My chicks in the other cage use a plastic feeder and don't get cut feet.

someone had written in about that metal trough, it cut off 2 of their baby duck beaks-get rid of it immediately!!!

Sorry- still a newbie- Can anyone post a pic of the feeder? I think ours may have injured my gal's beak. I removed it after seeing this post-(which gave more weight to my suspiscion that the feeder was the offender) but wanted to be sure of the type before I go buy another tomorrow...

Thanks all!

Ahhh I see. I thought it was a more upright one, or the circular one.

I have that same feeder. You know - our turkey poults were getting little nicks on them. I thought they were pecking at one another. Hmmm

I think I'll just get rid of it or just keep the bottom trough.

Thanks for the picture!

The bottom of this one doesn't have the folded metal on the bottom of the trough, so it's sharp metal. a bad design IMO. I got a purple, round, plastic feeder. it works great for my little chickies!
