Metal or Plastic

I've always gone the affordable, plastic route. :) Only downside is how flimsy/brittle they become once frozen.....can't begin to count how many times broken feeders and waterers needed replacement around here.

The only reason I splurged on the galvanized steel. Had the same feeder and waterer for 10 years.

Plastic for us. We use the 7 pound hanging feeder pictured above and a regular just ove a gallon hanging waterer. Both are hung low in the outdoor brooder on chain extensions in the beginning and raised as the chicks grow. If a broody raises for us same hanging applies as we use a coop just for raising chicks. With a shared run divided with chicken wire so they can all see each other.

Good quality plastic for chicks, galvanized trough feeders in the coop, food safe plastic bucket with plastic selffilling cups as waterer. I would do all metal if the functionality was the same, it lasts longer.
