I'm wondering about using the plastic 1/2" hardware cloth. I haven't seen anywhere that anyone has used it, so it must not be recommended. But it is SO much cheaper than the metal! We have used it before for other things and it seems to hold up (not deteriorate) fairly well. Why would it not be a good idea to use the plastic??

Thanks! I have 8 chix very anxious to move out to the new coop / run, so the sooner that cloth is up the better!!

Plastic is fine as long as you realize it won't stop anything that wants to go through it.

It's your choice

Something cheap, or something that actually works

Plastic will keep the chickens in, but it will not keep anything out. Nothing..it is useless as a ndeterant against predators. Use the metal.

Plastic hardware cloth, chicken wire......... might stop a chicken from getting out, but no predator protection at all. Less than zero. Go ahead and invest in the best protection possible.
