Hi,
I've just joined this group, and am brand new to chickens (3 wks). Been wanting them for years and finally got some. Unfortunately we lost our first within the first week (to a neighbours dog that jumped our fence! - not impressed). So we now have two ducklings and one chook.
Anyway, I have a health related question, not sure if it is normal or not. Checked my chicken today, and noticed that she had a tiny bit of white discharge from one nostril, cleaned it, smelled it, smelled yucky but not sure if that was normal), on the other nostril was the smallest trace of blood, cleaned that. No other signs, she is perfectly happy, running around, running up to us, scratching around as usual. That was 2hrs ago, and can't see any signs of it returning yet. I'm not sure if the beak has changed colour slightly, my instinct thinks it may have changed to a slightly darker colour, I think that's how I noticed the discharge in the first place, but can't be certain.
Any ideas, is this normal, should I be panicking?
any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
D.
