Hi there, I brought home two ~4 month old pullets about 5 days ago. One is a Salmon Faverolle and the other is an Easter Egger. We have three older hens, and I've had them separated in the run by a fence (so they can still see each other and be somewhat close) and they have been sleeping in separate areas. For the most part the older hens have been staying away from where the new girls are.

Anyway, I noticed the day after I brought the new girls home that the Salmon Fav had clear discharge from her nose and I heard her sneeze once. I also heard her make a few honking sounds when clearing crop. My anxiety peaked yesterday as she continues to have this discharge (I can tell because there's a bit of dirt and food stuck to her beak), and as I wiped it away I noticed it had a fishy odor. She continues to eat and drink a LOT, and boss around the EE (who is larger than her!). Sometimes though, I notice her just quietly sitting with eyes closed while all the other ladies and still being active. The EE doesn't seem to have any respiratory symptoms.

When I spoke with the breeder of these pullets, she said she has not noticed any signs of respiratory illness in her flock. She offered to swap out the Salmon (and the EE if I want) if that would make me feel better. I honestly am not sure what to do. I can't tell if I am overthinking this situation -- it's just the off-smell from the Salmon's nostrils have me a bit paranoid it would be Coryza. Are there other respiratory illnesses that can cause this sort of smell? Is the smell just because of the dirt/food stuck to her beak? What should I do??

Infectious Coryza causes facial and eye swelling with pus along with coughing, sneezing, mucous from the nostrils, etc. Reportedly, it has a Foul Odor.

Could be that you are smelling food/dirt. Get some photos of the pullet, her face and eyes.

She's eating/drinking and bossing around, doesn't sound too serious.
