So I was planning on gettin about four or five buff orpington chicks and was wondering if Meyer hatchery is a good place to get them. The reason why I chose Meyer is because of how close they are and their 3 chick minimum which suits my needs. So I was wondering is it a good idea to order? Thanks for any help in advance :).

I got my chicks from Meyer Hatchery and they are fine now although I had to nurse them a lot when they first arrived as their plane was snowed in for a night and they were weak when they got here. But all seven made it and they are beautiful and happy.

Mine have all come from Meyer. I had one chick die in transit, but other than that no problems. Of course I'm just looking for eye candy and eggs, if you were wanting to breed them or show them I cannot comment to that.

I would just have them as pets and eggs as a by product but thanks for the help I think ill order my chicks when I can get to building the coop... so much snow and its so clod outside.

I'd suggest seeing if anyone lives in your area raising layers who might have extra chicks. Then you don't have to pay shipping, you support local , and you can see the flock the chicks came from. If that turned up empty (an idea would be post on your state's board for a local option) then I'd go the hatchery route.

I ordered buff Orpingtons from there once. They weren't bad, very good egg layers and healthy. If you just want pets I would go with them. The only complaint I had was the buff color was a bit washed out looking, like a pale yellow instead of gold.

I think they are a waderful hatchery all my chicks arrived healthy and never lost a single 1 and very friendly people and great egg layers
