Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Nice little group you have there  :)  It's hard to identify some of the white chicks at this age but I would guess either White Leghorn or White Rock, other possibility would be Delaware.  It will become more apparent as she grows, Leghorns are taller, have more upright tails, bigger/floppier combs and white earlobes, White Rocks are fuller and have red earlobes and Delawares will develop black markings on their necks and tails.

Thank you, a Delaware would be nice. She is on the golden side compared to the sultan. I guess I will know soon enough :) a buff Orpington would be awesome too.

In the pics she looks a bit too lemony yellow to be a Buff Orp but that could be the lighting. You should be able to confirm or rule that out in a week or two by what color her feathers come in and how quickly they come in as Buff Orps are much slower to mature.

Our Buff Orp 2 days old, note redish golden color on head

Day 5

One week

Two weeks

Our White Rock day 2

Day 5 feathering fast and day 11

Day 19

I love both these breeds. Sure our Buff Orp is more affectionate (she needs the snuggles) but the White Rock still comes to sit on my lap at 20 weeks old. I wouldn't have picked that breed myself but my son wanted it as his "Snow Chicken" and once I read more about them I was pleased that she would be a good addition to our flock :)

Aww, she really is lovely. I just didn't need the extra so it will have to be very special to stay, lol.

Oh gosh so hard to choose, I love the food names! So mom and dad are Limabean and Pepper yes? Can we see recent pics of the two? I think my favorites are Quince and Mulberry, but Fig would be cute with Quince. I also like Boysenberry (though it doesn't flow off the tongue as well as Mulberry) and Currant... Oh Quince and Currant are cute together too! Do you think Marionberry is too much of a mouthful? You could shorten it to Marion. Marion and Mulberry. I think Coconut and Cauliflower would be perfect if they were splash but obviously its your call. The bean names are tempting because of their mom.

So still no egg from Snow, though she squatted for me a few days ago. Baby laid another egg in the sand of the run yesterday, after a week of normal laying and then today she laid in the nest box but came out singing the loudest egg song because she broke her egg, it was very thin shelled. Humph.

I was free ranging the girls from 6:30 am until about 9 am, doing some yard work and I glanced over toward the run and Cornelia my little Wellie was standing near the door sort of crouched and all puffed up. I picked her up and she had a very hard crop, but not sour. I noticed she was "sneezing" a bit earlier and she was making a sort of growling sound. I brought her inside, put a small piece of coconut oil in her beak which she swallowed fine but soon made a gurgling sound followed by wheezing. I dropped some water in her beak with a straw then sat down to massage her crop and read. Very contradictory info out there, do use oil, don't use oil, do put vinegar in water, don't use apple cider vinegar, do use baking soda to reduce acidity, don't give feed, only feed yogurt and on and on. It seems to have gotten a bit better but she's still not normal.

Oh! Those are the two I was going to say! Only they sound better in the other order, Mulberry and Quince.

(I was actually going to say Blueberry, at first, but then I saw it wasn't on the list. I suppose Blueberry is overdone for any bird that is blue.)

You are welcome to name one after my turkey, Cranberry.

Autumnhearth, I'm sorry Cornelia is under the weather. I hope she gets all better. I don't think any of those things you mention would hurt her to try them.

I haven't gotten any new eggs yet either, but Aggie stood still for me when I tried to pet her. That's unusual for her, so I have high hopes. And Peppermint always lets me pet her, and will just hunker down, but now she almost squats. (And I have seen the rooster have his way with her, so she at least has stopped running away from him, even if she is not squatting.)

My next youngest group is only 17 weeks (my Legbars). Those two pullets have super red combs! I think they might jump ahead of the older pullets. I have some new birthday photos, but I still have to sort through which ones to post.

OK, that didn't take too long. Here's the latest in the girls' development, for people who want to see juvie chicks at different stages.

Aggie, Blue Splash Marans, at 21 weeks:

Blossom, Corabeth and Elizabeth at 20 weeks, but unfortunately, a terrible photo, sorry. It was way too hot to fuss around trying to get them individually.

Peppermint, 21 weeks old. She really makes up for Aggie's lack of spots!

Here is the next youngest brooder group, the Legbar and Black Langshan group.

Princess Buttercup on the left and Princess Peach on the right, both 17 weeks old today.

Maleficent has the yellow leg band, and Maid Marian has no band. They were 15 weeks old as of Monday. They wouldn't come out of the shady weed patch, so another lousy photo.

And my Cream Legbar rooster, Westley, who is brother to Peach. He is really starting to fill out and get bigger. I think he is happy that the older rooster, Beaker got sold last week. Since then he has horned in on Beaker's pullets, as well as his own four. Except I think the Langshan girls are too big for him, and the legbar girls still run away. Even with their red combs, I don't think they are ready yet.

He wanted to see what the camera thingy looked like up close.

And the youngest group, which I like to call the Red-Gold group, since they mostly are.

The Partridge Rock (Ella) is the larger one, and she is 11 weeks old. The rest are 9 weeks. (Easter Eggers, Buckeye and Cream Legbar.)

Poppyseed the Sweetgrass is 12.5 weeks.

My weeds have been really out of control this year, but I hacked away at this corner the other day and it is doing better. I really love how the volunteer sunflower placed itself right in front of the corner.

And here is Cranberry. Can't leave him/her out. Thinks he's the main attraction any time someone goes outside. Too bad he was stuck in the dog run and forgot how to jump the fence. He's in and out a million times a day. It's not like he doesn't know how to get back in.
