Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

My mothers blue wheaten EE roo has the same two toes crooked as your hen. It doesn't really affect him at all. He just walks a little weird. I think he's 3 years old or maybe 4.

Okay, thank you! Maybe my pullets toes won't get any worse. She is already walking a little different than she normally does, but you wouldn't notice it unless you knew how she walked before.

Are you expecting anymore shipments this year? I almost got a blue orp but when I went to add it to my order it just got sold. I'm glad you got everyone sold! What kind of ducks were you guys looking at getting

No, no more orders for us this year. We are at our limit so I think we are done ordering. The only thing we might order more of is meat birds. Depends on how this trial goes.

The blue orp came in our assorted rare breeds order. She has a lot of personality.

I think changing your order is something that everyone does. I sure did with both chick orders. There must be a subliminal message in their web page

We have 10 ducks. 3 Buffs and 1 Blue Swedish (from Meyers) and 3 Rouens (1 crested), 1 Pekin, and 2 Muscovies, all girls. We had to clip the Scovies wings cause they can fly very well but the others are too large. They flap their wings like they truely beleive they can get off the ground but it just doesn't happen.

We were looking at the rouens. I don't know much about ducks. I only know they look like mallards except twice the size. We won't get any until we get some more land though.
I would love to see pics of your ducks!

The Howard's how do you like the buffs? Blue Swedish is on my order for next month!
They are fun. DH raised them so they are not too used to me. I am working with them to get them used to being held. We got them because we wanted a 'layer' breed of duck although our Pekin and Rouens seem to lay every day so far. Maybe it is just ours but they are the NOISIEST critters in the yard. They quack all the time, the others only quack when they see something strange or an animal.....Or when I call their name.

The 3 buffs and Blue Swedish from Meyer. All 3 Buffs look just a like, have since they arrived. The Swed is absolutely beautiful (to me at least) They are all still so soft and fluffy. They are 17 weeks old and are starting to exhibit mating behavior. Especially the Swed and the dominate Buff. Hopefully not much longer till we get eggs.

The Pekin is Butterscotch, to the left is her crate mate Jake (female), the far right is Monta-Q and the front crested is Jennifer...the last 3 are Rouens. Both sets are over a year old. Jennifer is our special girl. A lot of crested ducks have neurological issues. She has always had issues with balance. So she comes inside every night for some TLC, treats, and peaceful sleep. We got all 4 of these from the local feed store.

These are our two Muscovies. We traded a local guy a BLR Wyandotte roo for the front one named Collard Green, then because the other ducks didn't want to hang with her and she was lonely we called the gentleman and got another. They immediately started chatting and have been stuck together ever since. In fact right now they are sharing a nest with our silkie. Note they are sitting on straw, no eggs.
We have no males, ducks or chickens.

My first flock came from Ideal, and we were very happy with them. This time, I decided to try Meyers, because I really wanted a blue orpington, and Ideal was out of them. Below is upon arrival from Meyer's-such cute little fluff balls!. We received 1 BO, 1 BR, 1 Barnvelder, and supposedly 1 Blue Orp

Unfortunately, the buff orp died at just over 48 hours. Seems like lots of people here have lost BO's from Meyer. The blue orpington is now a solid black-very sad about that, as it was quite expensive, and doesn't look anything like the catalog picture. From their description, I understood that the chicks would not produce 100% blue offspring, but not that what I would receive was not guaranteed to be blue. Overall, this has been a disappointing order, and since I am limited to a max of 4 chickens, it will be years before I have a chance to start over again with the breeds/colors I was hoping for. Now I'm just praying these three are all pullets, so I don't have to get rid of any! Next time, I think I'll spend the $85 these 3 ended up costing me at the local swap meet instead. At least I'll get to look the chicks over before I buy.

A few of my girls at 17 weeks... Anyone think my RIR is getting closer to laying?

Big Red (her name keeps changing!) I guess her face still has to redden up a bit and no squatting for me yet.

I'm sorry you didn't understand that you might get one of the three colors when you order blue. I've never seen anyone guarantee a blue. Meyer has this on their blue splash marans: "Please note: the color blue could include a mixture of colors". Guess they should put that on all their blues. Those blue orps are really expensive!

I'm with you - getting any future chicks where I can see them first.

my chickens still don't squat for me and 2 out of 3 are laying. Our girls got MUCH redder and bigger combs/wattles before they laid, and were 20 weeks but that could be different.
I'd say you have a couple more weeks. What was much more definitive was looking at our chickens vent. It was quite obvious the day before our BR laid. I had no idea what to look for but we looked about every other day and the difference was very noticeable when it happened. Sorry I can't describe it but if you start looking now you'll know when you see it. There will be no question.

Everyone is too cute! I'm loving all the pictures ESP the ducks and EEs. I'm adding atleast 2 EEs to my 9/30 order, I can't resist those faces! Izzy is by far my fav EE she is so beautiful. Has she layed yet?

Nancy - I think Izzy might be one of your first to lay. Big Red looks like she has some comb and wattle growth still needed unless she's going to stay that size. Plus she needs a little more color.

Here is our Ash, you can see the difference. So far no eggs from her, but any day now I think. Her sister I think was laying before she died and Ash is starting to look more like her now in coloring and comb/wattle growth.

Here is Maddie (RIP) She was laying at 19 weeks, my other EE, Olivia still is not but is squatting now and checking out nest boxes. Izzy really reminds me if Maddie. Izzy is getting the bigger comb, but still needs the red too.

I also have my slow growing BR who seems weeks behind the other BR's. My chickens are almost 21 weeks, but she still looks like a 16 week old.

And here is Olivia the other EE who seems to be almost there too, she is so hard to get a good close picture of, always on the go.

Since I am showing pics of my flock here are the rest, Daisy the almost 10 week old White Rock. She's hard to catch on camera too.

....and the two in recovery, Big Mama and Oreo. Big Mama looks great, her eye is fully open, but we're not sure if she is blind in that eye or not, still looks funny. Oreo may lay an egg before the others, she may have laid one before the attack, I thought that she was one of the ones laying. Big Mama still needs more comb and wattle growth and some red. She was squatting before the attack, but no longer does.

Big improvement with Oreo today. I tool her out of the cage yesterday and she is mixed in the flock. She's been running around today and sunning herself and even roosted on a lower roost. So hopefully we are getting back to normal.

To everyone else. Those are some adorable ducks. I still need to figure out what I am doing with raising chickens before I can even consider ducks.

Talking about red combs 2 of my 4 silkies who I thought were hens are Roos. I had a feeling about 1 but wasn't sure then today when I went to give them some tomato I saw the combs have gotten red over night. So 3 of my 4 are Roos, the only hen is the one my hubby picked out. When do they start to crow? They are 13 weeks today
