Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Excited for you! What are you getting?

Silkies are pretty chickens although they sure have a unique look. I have not tried to get any of them yet. I won't say that I won't in the future though.

I blame all of you with the Golden Campine pictures, I now have one on my order! Here is my list for the 29th hatch date:

Salmon Faverolle Female
Easter Egger Female - 2
Buff Laced Polish Standard Female
Golden Campine Female
Light Brown Leghorn Female
White Leghorn Female
Black Australorp Female
Golden Laced Wyandotte Female
Assorted Rare Female
Meyer Meal Maker

So one of each except for two of the EE's. I ordered 11 more and I have 6, so if they all survive and make it here, I'll have a flock of 17. My last flock was 19,so a little less. If by chance I see a cochin available before they ship, I'll add one. I loved the one I had, Gizmo, the cutest thing. They must be popular since none are available.
My response to this disappeared... not sure what happened>
You've got a super assortment coming soon!!! I had no idea we could keep checking the website and breeds would become available. I wanted 1 BO instead of one of my RIR's and 1 Golden Buff instead of the other because they start to lay so early and I'm so impatient! I love the buff color on chickens and didn't end up with any. I thought for sure one of my EE's would be buff colored since that is so common and of course I ordered 2 BB and one was a roo and one must be half light half buff brahma cause it's not very 'buffy'! Again.... next time :)

Im the same way. Of all the things I could become addicted to, I never imagined it would be chickens.

I know. I'm not really a bird person. I never wanted a pet bird and my hubby is a bird watcher but not me. But I don't really think of my chickens as birds since they have such personality and let me pet and hold them. When they feel like it.

NNancy, you keep your birds as pets, right? I would never recommend sexlinks as pets (the Golden Buffs are red sexlinks). Don't get me wrong, they're wonderful birds and have great personalities, but they tend to have egg laying issues that are prolonged and pretty much incurable. :( I have lost most of mine to internal laying and egg yolk peritonitis. I'm not getting any more of them, myself.

Not to be a downer, of course.

Lynn I'm glad I was able to help! All of the Cochins are available for your day ex the blue. I love your assortment by the way! I changed my orders up a lil bit today. I'm so glad they are nice about letting you change orders cause I feel like I'm harassing these poor people lol

Completely agree with Pip. Two of mine are really suffering ( 2 1/2 year old Gold Sex links) and we are following every protocol to treat them and keep them comfortable but I have decided to not get anymore. Thankfully it looks like I only have one in this order - the other 2 suspects are feathering out to look more like New Hampshires ( pics tomorrow on their 2 week birthdays

).

Edit to add: my GSL's are not from Meyers but I don't really think it makes a difference where you get them. They are eagg laying machines and it takes everything out of them in my opinion.

I did have a good assortment before, but well you know that story, that stupid dog!

Anyway, at least with starting over I get to play with cute little chicks again for awhile. I am still working on changing my order again, we'll see what it ends up looking like once I am done. I am trying to add 3 more which would bring the total up to 14 new chicks, plus my 6, so 20. That's my limit.

The buff colored ones are really nice looking. Maybe your BB will become a darker buff after her first molt? I hope so. If not, well you have a Brinsea heater, so next Spring, maybe?

They are great about changing the orders. It looks like we're going to skip the cochins this time, I am trying for some more dark brown egg layers and white egg layers now. I'll see what I end up with tomorrow.

My Brinsea will have to stay in the closet a while longer because my coop can't hold anymore or trust me, I would have an order in now. With everyone talking about chicks I took a look at Meyer and they have most of the breeds I would like to add to my flock but I WON"T DO IT!! My feed store has some great breeds right now too and they're about 5 weeks old. Pretty much ready to go out to the coop but I can't fit them. Maybe not for a few years.

Wow. I had no idea! Thank you both for the info. I'll stay away from them. I don't need an egg laying machine. I mean I eat a lot of eggs but I have 13 chickens. That should be more than enough eggs!!
