Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Everyone is so excited with the chickens. Hopefully they will stay excited and help with all the chicken chores in the future.

It's probably like The Little Red Hen .. they all want to collect the eggs and eat the eggs but not help with any of the work!!

My PO gets the truck pretty early OR they can end up at another nearby PO and arrive about 10 a.m or so. They ALL have my number so hopefully
I will get an early wake up call.
Sheesh... seriously, I am so much worse about this than when I was pregnant

Last year (May) when ours came in the PO called super early saying that they were there. I was like - I will be right there. That was when she informed me that they did not open till a couple of hours later and I had to wait till then to get them. I was there when they opened and she was so relieved for me to take them. They were tired of the peeping. I thought it was wonderful and couldn't have wiped the smile off my face if I had tried. We only ordered 4 in that order, all arrived live but we lost one the next day.
One week till the ducklings show up! And I am super excited and trying to hurry the time by faster and faster each day. Going to try and talk them into letting me come and get them early since it is March and the weather has been so wishy-washy.

I can't believe they didn't open for you to get them. So sad.
Only one week till ducks! They are so adorable as babies but I know nothing about them. Chickens will be enough for me!

The Howards: That is strange that they would not open for you? Our PO did. Maybe they learned a lesson from last time and will let you in early to pick up those ducklings. What type of brooder and setup do you have to have for ducks? We saw a tub of ducklings at the tractor supply store over the weekend, so tempting!

NotableNancy: Well when you were pregnant, you knew exactly where your baby was the whole time.

I hope they call you soon!!!!!

Well, the truck has come and gone and no chicks.

there's a very slim chance they can come in at about 10:00 but very slim.
So it looks like I will get a box of dead or dying chicks tomorrow.
I just don't see how it can take 3 days to get from the hatchery 7 hours away.
I'm just so sad.

I use the same setup for them that we use for chicks, a super large dog crate. They ate the same feed as our chicks (non-medicated starter). The only difference is the temp changes. this will be the first time we have to use a heat lamp. always before we got them in the summer and kept them in a warm location with a heating pad. Crazy i know but it worked for us and both the chicks and ducks. The other thing is the water thing... ducks use it to eat and LOVE to play in a lot of water. They are 1000x's messier and poop SO much more! I had thought about them before but dh was nixing the idea. Then when we went to the feed store one day last year he saw the little wigglers and fell in love with them. he was like but you wanted one before. So of course we got 2 of them, a month later we got 2 more, in January we got 2 more (grown), and now have 4 more coming. Apparently chicken math applies to ducks too

Oh No! I am keeping positive thoughts and prayers headed your way that the little ones will arrive quickly and in safe health.

Update: They are at the PO in a nearby town that the express mail gets sent to. My PO is on the way to pick them up and
will bring them to my house for me (really do love them)

I am not allowed to go there and get them because they have to then be scanned at my town's PO.

Hopefully they are all OK. They weren't able to tell me if there was peeping coming from the box.

Will let you all know what's up later
