Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

What's NB?  (i'm a bit slow :) )
When are you getting the new chicks?
I was looking at Meyer and dreaming of new chicks and I totally forget how much shipping is?  About how much is it for 5 chicks?

Nancy Brahma. The new chicks ship 9/30 but I should get them 10/2. It cost me $38 and change to ship them to me in southeastern Nc. I think it's the same price for up to 15 chicks..

Oops, I have a Golden Laced Wyandotte, but Buffy is a Buff Laced Polish. I mis-typed on that post. I should have known better since that is the reason her name is Buffy.

Plus my last Polish I had before, Elvis, was a Golden Laced Polish.

I'll fix my previous post, thanks.

Oh and nice order selection, good luck with your husband. I remind mine all the time of the expenses of his hobbies, so my chicken expenses don't seem so bad.

I'm getting a Buffy in my next order, they are so cute at that age. He found out about the sultan yesterday and he didnt say anything so I maybe it won't be too bad. We are prob gonna have to get rid of our silkie roosters so I think he isn't so mad about getting more chicks. My hobbies are my animals which as we all know isn't cheap at all.

So far Annie and Alice have already started, and Im thinking Sunni, Ellie, and Lucy (golden Campine) are going to start soon. Everyone else still have short combs, no redness, and none of the others squat yet. Im thinking Amber is crossed with something. Her comb is a lot different than Ellie's, she has no beard, and her legs are a really dark green instead of an olive green. I'm curious as to what egg color she'll end up laying.
I was just looking at your chicken total in your signature, so you have one more then me? I have 22. You're going to have a lot of eggs for the winter. I hope my new ones lay in the winter and do not skip until spring, but I am in NC and the winters here are not too bad, so hopefully they will lay.

I was so happy when I added 2 more chicks to my order and I was refunded $17 plus, since I reached 16 chicks. It would be nice if I knew others in the area that could go in with me next time for chicks and save the shipping charges, since next time I will only be getting a few like you guys. There is always Tractor Supply or the Hardware store not too far, but their selection is so small, I love the variety at Meyers!!

So there is a new breed out there now? The NB chicken? ha, ha

She is a beautiful chicken!

Your girls should still lay. Two years ago I hatched some chickens in August, and all of the pullets started laying in December and continued to lay all winter. They didn't lay as often as the pullets who were hatched in the Spring, but they still laid lots of eggs.

I was looking Amber (my EE) over today, and she is definitely crossed with something. She has white earlobes, and her comb looks almost like a cross between pea and single. Hmm...

Im hoping to be able to order some more chicks in the Spring. It depends how many of my old girls make it through the winter. I have seven 5 year old hens, and I'm not sure how many of them will get through this winter. If I lose a bunch of them, I might be able to get away with a small order from Meyer in the Spring. We'll have to see what time brings. If I can order some in the Spring, I really want a Blue Splash Marans, another Black Australorp, a Barred Rock, and maybe a couple more EE's.

Chicken math is a terrible thing... lol

There is a few ppl either around me or my husband knows that's has chickens so I'm hoping I can get a couple ppl in on a order with me but the more I thought about it my 8 that I had shipped some seemed like they could of been trampled on or kinda smothered by the others so I would be kinda scared shipping a bunch of them. But then again in was the bantams and the EE with wry neck who had the problems.
I really do want some NBs now. Maybe Meyer will have them as a breed next year. I want brahmas but I want both. This is the perfect solution. Plus I think they look better than the buff or light.

Thanks, I was thinking they would since we really do not have too many cold days.

Maybe Amber will lay a white egg since she has white ear lobes? I hope all goes well with your chickens. I like your selections for next year.

Yeah, that is true about the trampling of chicks. My last batch of 17 seemed to do okay, I did have the one with wry neck that recovered and the one that died the next day, but none seemed squashed or trampled when they arrived. I imagine though if you go for even higher numbers you could have problems. So many things to worry about when you order chicks.

Ended up adding a RIR chick to my Sep 16th order. Hoping for a calm personality. Then placed an order for the following week for 8 broiler Roos and a buff laced polish. Chickens are an expensive but rewarding hobby for me! Spent today working on my run, expanding it and building a compost corner for it. Also playing with some dog kennel panels trying to configure a safe but temporary run for the meaties. The thing about Meyers is the possibility to place small orders. Unfortunately they were out of the broiler chicks when I went to expand my original order.

We got 25 meat birds and they put a separator down the middle of the box so there were less on each side. None were trampled and none were lost. :)

My neighbors don't supplement with light in the winter and still got tons of eggs all winter long. They have a mixed flock of BA's, Leghorns, Cochin, EE, Brown Leghorn, Partridge Rock and can't remember what else. I don't think anything stops those BA's and leghorns from laying!

I have 2 RIR's one calm and one a little nutty bossy so I think they can go either way.Hope you get what you want!

LOL Maybe Meyer is watching the thread... NB.. I like it

Thanks for the shipping price. It makes it pay to order more chicks but I don't have anyone to share with.

I Hit my record of 11 eggs yesterday with only 1 green egg. I have 13 chickens so I'm still holding out for my last EE to lay green. Still not sure if she and my NB are laying. If my EE would let me pick her up maybe I could put that lipstick trick on her vent to put me out of my misery of not knowing.
