Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Pretty girls!!! I have 2 Barred Rocks, beautiful girls, but I don't think they are laying yet! I do have one mystery layer that's laid a small beige egg and I'm not sure who that is, but I know the rest that are laying.  They are 25 weeks 2 days! BIG beautiful red combs but I don't think they are laying! :idunno  How old are they when they start laying?  And do they usually lay every day?  Yesterday I got 6 eggs, 3 from red stars, 1 BO, 1 EE and a mystery layer.  2 of these girls just started and today only got 2. :barnie

They start on their own time, especially in the winter when there is no supplemented light. I have 60+ 26 week olds and not all of them have started laying. My BR were my first to start laying and then the RIR.

Chicks just arrived!!! They came in a snow storm and still most were alive. Out of 47 6 DOA and 1 right after I got home. 2 not looking good. I don't blame that on the quality of chicks though I thing the weather and 2 day transport was hard on them. The smallest 3 mottled cochin bantams are doing great and seem to be picking on all the bigger chicks!!
Meyer has the best costumer service I have ever seen!

I'm glad most of them arrived safely. I bet it's fun having that many chicks! I ordered 10 from them. One died from Wry neck shortly after arriving. I had to re-home two of my girls from Meyer (Golden Campines) so I just have seven. They are the healthiest girls I have ever had. In a few years when I can get some more chickens, I will definitely order from Meyer again. Their costumer service is great, and the quality of their birds are really good for a hatchery. When my one died from Wry neck, they offered to send me two replacement chicks for free if I purchased the third.

Too bad I was already at my limit for chickens.

Does anyone have any advice for me? The girls are bored and sick of being cooped up, and they have started pulling out Ellie's beard and the feathers on the top of Lilly's head. I have tried treats and everything. I don't know what to do to keep them busy until Spring when we can build their permanent coop outside. Considering it is only February and we have 3 ft of snow, I'm not going to be able to build the coop for a while.

I hang a cabbage for the girls and they love it! They bat it around getting exercise and then get their greens too! I have to put a new cabbage out every day. I have 8 girls so just to give an example of how much they eat.

They go through a cabbage every day? That's a lot of cabbage! Last winter the only cabbages I could find were purple cabbages, and the girls all had greenish blueish poop after eating it.

They seemed to like the cabbage though, considering it was gone in two days.
