Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Ahh! I think I can confirm that all four girls are laying. Yippee!!!

Whoever is laying the one with the hole in it, has done that both times. Better not turn into a habit!

That's right you're in Amish country in PA. I wish we had some good local craftsmen around us too. I want one for my new kitchen cabinets too!

I like your math too. Although I need to get rid of more then one to add any. I really need to lower my count to 12 and I am at 22, so I have a ways to go.

If I lower to 12 then I can add 4 to 6 more. We realized we only need 12 layers and have younger ones rotating in each year or every other year as the older ones age, get broody, molt, etc. I may give away a few to some some friends or family starting a flock, but they both may be all talk and never get a coop built. Guess we'll see.

Those little chicks are so cute though, hopefully all my planning doesn't go out the window when I see them.

I'm actually only 15 min from Phila and about 1 1/2 hours from Amish country but the guy, Tucker, lives about 40 min from here near where I get my feed. I'm sure he's getting the coops from the Amish... darn ... I so wish I could cut out the middle man and buy where he's buying from but I don't think that's going to happen. Would probably be 1/2 the cost. Then I could get a bigger one

I think I would then be divorced!!
I like the idea of 12 - 14 layers and a few more just for the cute factor!!

Yay on the eggs... so funny how one starts and the rest jump in too :)
Hmmm, does the shell feel thinner than the others? I'm sure you're giving them oyster shell and is there enough bedding in the nest? Maybe she's pecking it a bit to hard after she lays it to check it out? One of my RIR's is def. the nest police and checks each egg as she patrols the area. I've seen her pecking around at the eggs.

Lol-nest police! I added more bedding today just in case. Maybe she doesn't squat as low as the others. Haha. The oyster shell is available. I even managed to leave TSC without any new babies.

I picked up 27 eggs from local BYCers today and 9 chicks from a local feed store! I got 1 EE, 2 D'Anver, 4 frizzle white cochin bantams, and 1 SLW. I changed my meyer order for next week. I lowered the amount of rare breed mix and upped the bantam EE number. I want to make sure we get 1 girl bantam EE!
I realized today since we are using the eco-glow brooder now we don't have room for this many chicks under it. We're going to have to build another brooder. I think I'll build a smaller one for the bantams, put the eco-glow in that, and then add a lamp over the others until we sell enough they can all fit under the eco-glow.
We have a chicken swap on the 1st so hopefully we can sell some then.

That's what scares me this time of year....a second brooder...a second, or third coop...an extension on the run. LOL!!

I have so many eggs I could incubate right now, but idk what I'd do with them. How do people find people to buy them? I live in a VERY small town in the middle of nowhere, so I'm too "chicken" to hatch too many, afraid I won't be able to get rid of them.

I have four of my EEs laying now and one of my EE mixes. Here are a few pictures of the color tones, one is sky blue and the rest are shades of blue green to olive. My EE mix lays the light green. I have a few brown and white eggs and two Marans eggs in the photos too.

Our Meyer chicks came in last Wednesday. I ended up with 6 Cornish Rock X, 1 Dominiquer, 1 Buff Laced Polish, 1 Exchequer Leghorn, 1 Easter Egger and 1 Speckled Sussex. Please excuse the pictures....I took them by myself while holding the chicks (would that be considered a selfie?).

That is a challenge in some places. Luckily we live in a very developed area that is into chickens so finding homes is usually pretty easy. It's the roos we will get since we're hatching now that poses the most problem since the majority of cities around here don't allow them.

Luckily city ordinances stop us from getting more so I HAVE to control myself. DH is already making plans for our next coop though. lol

You're giving me chick fever!! They are adorable. Glad the polish made it in the cold weather :)
