Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

I have a Meyers order scheduled for May 5th. It's been on order since November and I'm about to loose it!!!!!!!! My last flock was from Ideal, but I had some deformities and vowed to find a better hatchery. I have heard a lot of great things about Meyers and love that there is no per breed minimum. I am however, worried about shipping.
I live in north eastern Oklahoma and was wondering if I have made a mistake ordering from a hatchery that is so far away. What do you guys think?????? I'm a nervous wreck.
Depends on our weather may can be hot as you know. Have you tried country hatchery in your neck of the woods. I've had good luck there.

I have to decide what to do with my girls- it's getting dusty and a bit 'farm' smelling in the house. It's still going down into the mid forties at night so it might be a bit cold in the garage/coop for them with just the ecoglow. I have a red light but since they are used to the dark I don't really want to start getting them used to a light 24/7. I looked at the heated dog mats and they are pretty pricey but I may have to spring for one.
I think we can hang in there another week or so then I'll have to do something.

Also, Sweet Pea still peeps and strains when she poo's so I gave her molasses/water by eye dropper because I read that is a natural diuretic for them. I had read applesauce would be good but then I was thinking about the BRAT diet when my kids were young and we gave banana, rice, applesauce and toast for diarrhea because it binds you up. So then I wasn't to sure about it. If anyone has other ideas feel free to pass them on. It's not Pasty butt because nothing is sticking to the vent, she just has to strain a lot. I have put vaseline and Neosporin too.

Nancy - We had a heated dog mat already, they are pricey, so I understand your hesitation. When I first put our chicks out in the coop, I made them a huddle box. This was when I was still using a heat lamp and I just used a large box, cut out a door big enough for each to get thru and had the heat lamp shine thru the top. It seemed to work for a week, then they outgrew that. Then I switched to the a dog heat mat. I had the mat on the ground of the coop, then I put a brick on top of that, the mat I used needed something on it to release the heat. On both sides of the heater I put 2 large cement blocks and then a straw bale on top of that. I made it where they could escape the heat if they needed to. I also had a straw bale beside this on the floor to block any wind. I have a open air coop, so I covered both open sides with clear plastic and also each side window has a thick moving blanket over it, that I opened up each day so the sunlight could come thru the plastic.

I'm not sure but maybe a huddle box will work with the brinsea?

When they reached 6 weeks old I took off the plastic on the windows and would open the window blankets each day if the temps were above 50 to let in fresh air, but still closed the windows with the blankets at night. When they were 7 weeks I took out the heat mat and this week I just took apart the straw bales and they just have the roosts now. Of course, I am in NC, not sure if it is colder where you are, this is what I did and I am new at this, but it did work for me.

With each change in the coop, they complain some, but so far they are all healthy and seem to enjoy roosting. Although, I do plan on lowering the roosts, since I don't think I allowed for head clearance when they fly up there at night. They also have a lower roost by the open windows.

If you can figure out a way to slowly introduce them to colder temps, so they have time to adjust gradually, I think they will be okay. Now that mine are fully feathered I am much more relaxed about them, but those 1st weeks are so stressful.

Well, young Fancy the Meyer partridge Plymouth Rock is circling the home page right now. I think she was 7 weeks old in this picture.

In regards to using an EcoGlow outside, beware of the temperature! I've heard they don't work in certain temps or below (I think it was if it's below 50?).

I thought I saw her before, she is a beautiful chicken!

Thanks Lynn. Yes, that's what I want to figure out. How to introduce them slowly to the colder temps. So if it will warm up just a bit I can move them into the garage next week (they'll be 4 weeks old then) and then out to the coop by 6-7 weeks old. It is supposed to only go down to mid 40's next week so it should be a bit above 50 in my garage. I may have to try it.

Yes! Thank you. It has to be above 50 to work properly. But, I think if it hovers around 50 and they have a lot of their wings already, I think they will be OK.

Sounds like you have it covered!

I'm sure they will do well.
