Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Thanks for the Nu Stock advice. I'll put it on my BA's head when it comes in.

I have still been looking up the cause of my girls bare bellies and have seen multiple threads on it. Never a solution. All the same suggestions of molting, feather picking, broody, environmental, food change. Lice/mites are usually ruled out as people state they don't see any evidence. None of the people post as to if it was ever resolved so I'm still at a loss.

I'm wondering if I should go back to my old feed I was using or switch to Purina Flock Raiser since it has higher protein and calcium on the side. I really don't think it's mites/lice and probably won't stress them out again and dust them all again. Anyone have ideas about the feed idea? Still haven't wormed and may try that in a month or so but I don't want to overwhelm them.
I've never given them yogurt but bought some plain yogurt... how does everyone feed that? Mixed with their feed?

Sorry for so many questions but I'm still so new I would love to hear from everyone else... no matter how new to chickens

We've all gone through so many different things and it's so great that we have a place to share.

A little late but I'm now building up my first aid kit. I had Poultry nutridrench, Poly Vitamins (baby vitamins for when they are chicks) Wazine, Corid, gloves, electrolytes, calcium, pick no more, vaseline, neosporin, prep H, probiotics. I am thinking of ordering Vetericyn VF HydroGel Wound & Skin Care it's pricey but I've read it's great for wounds etc.

What does everyone else have that they have really found useful?
With yogurt just put it in a wide low bowl and stand back. They are so funny to watch eat it. Mine love it!! Have a camera ready too!

I try to do things as simple as possible here and the closest to natural. So if I were you I wouldn't treat for worms unless you're sure they have them and also for bugs unless you see them. You don't want to overwhelm their systems, like you said. If you are concerned about worms, just buy a butternut squash and feed them the seeds. You can make a soup for you with the rest. Or pumpkin or other squash seeds. Chop up some fresh garlic, spinach, oregano and feed it to them too, throw in some cayenne pepper and/or red pepper flakes. You can make a mush with the feed. They'll eat the red pepper flakes, but parasites in them will not like staying there. I give mine a mush like that every week or two. I give them yogurt every week or two as well.

Also with the ACV, switch them to fresh water and just give them some ACV in water every few days, so they have a choice.

If you have switched feed, I'd switch back, maybe they do need more protein or the new feed does not have what the other one did?

You can also add some more natural nutrients by throwing in some clods of grass and clover if you have some growing there. Leave the dirt on it with the roots. Since ours are stuck in a muddy run we've been tossing in clods of grass that we dig up and they enjoy that. Keep them busy with stuff so if it is feather pecking they have other things to peck at. A huge flock block would be a great deterrent too.

This is all what I do and just ideas.

OK, I just added Butternut squash to my grocery list. Almost every day I make a mash of just water and wet food and they go crazy so I will add the pepper flakes and garlic next time. What does the spinach do? I just gave them some spinach yesterday that was starting to wilt and zucchini this morning. Not many seeds in the zucchini though. They go nuts over green pepper and the seeds from that but probably not hot enough to drive out worms if they have them.
My property doesn't have a speck of grass or clover but the barn where i work does so I will dig up some of that and give it to them. She doesn't mind :) Everything around here is mulched but I give them the weeds/dirt when I weed.

thanks for all this!!

I can't remember exactly why spinach is good for them, I know kale and other greens are as well.

I follow a lot of the stuff on this blog at the link below, and also the natural blog on BYC too.

My girls absolutely LOVE yogurt! I mix in oats with mine. It gives them something to peck at instead of just goopy yogurt.

11... nothing.

My daughter woke up at 5am with her ear blocked and hurting.
Pretty sure she has an ear infection..
I was hoping to get the chicks settled in and take her to the Drs..
Still waiting for the chicks! Gah!

Nancy, here is another link too. I think you've mentioned her before too.

My daughter is sick today too, think strep, mono, ear infections or something. That must be so stressful for you though since you are waiting for chicks to arrive and trying to take care of a sick child. My sick "child" is 20 years old so it is not as hard for me. When they're sick though, they become our little kids again.

My husband has minor out patient surgery tomorrow too, so it is a little stressful in our house as well. Seems there is always something going on. Guess I will have two patients this weekend.

Goodness, I would be freaking out too. Sheesh. Let's look on the positive side, it's not 0 degrees! I do hope they all are ok.

Oh boy, when it rains it pours right! Hope it goes well tomorrow.
