Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

You know what might be fun... we are frequently sharing pictures of our Meyer *chickens*, but what about the *eggs* that they lay? I'm sure some folks have done so here and there in the last 500 pages, but I've only been on here since February and don't recall seeing any, soooo..

Calling all owners of laying hens from Meyer's stock, please pretty please would you post some egg pics? Preferably labeled with what breed they come from, thanks! I have to wait until probably September to share ;)

Sounds good. Unfortunately, I cannot contribute, yet. My birds have a couple of months before they start laying as they are only 11 weeks old.

Do I have eggs pictures... heck. you would have thought they were the first eggs ever on the earth the way I used to take pictures of my Meyer chick Eggs!

I bought July 23rd hatch flock 2 years ago. I got my first egg on New Years Day, and they laid all that year until they went into their first big molt around the end of November ( year and and 4 months old).
First egg ever laid by my Golden Buff Sadie

First day I had 4 eggs....January 8, 2012

Then this is a picture of the first day all 9 hens laid in the same day.... It was February 12, 2012

I also love to show off my Ameraucana eggs.. even those these aren't Meyer chicks.. but they are beautiful!

while I have the pictures going here are a few of my Meyer girls..

Betta and Kate.. not yet to POL

Charlotte one of my RIR

Dahlia one of my Black Australorps

They look a little beat up here...the old Roo was way too hard on them.

Soon, this is what you will all be getting.. I'm sure some of you all ready are! One thing the Meyer girls are great at... MAking EGGS!
Beautiful eggs from beautiful birds!

Sorry, forgot to be hitting the button to quote as I read.

Nancy, I love your setup. That's great!

That's definitely a polish. Hard to tell in the pic, the color around the eye will tell you gold laced or silver laced.

I don't have experience with those breeds but I know Suncatcher on the boards here has an Austra White. She could tell you about them.

I let our girls out to free range for the first time in a long time. The big girls came flying out and the little girls ran after them but as soon as they got out they stopped and looked around and took their time coming all the way out to the grass area. They seemed to enjoy themselves though.

This is our little man, Carter (blue copper maran that we hatched). He's starting to get his copper color on his neck. It's really pretty.

Here he is again with our SLP Boomerang (1yr old)

This is as far as they made for a long time, just barely on the edge of the grass. Our dog keeping watch the whole time (And Amber, our 1 yr old EE in there too). You can see the coop in the background.

Of course the pugs had to come do poop patrol

Our splash silkie (nearly lavender color) - hopefully she's a girl. We hatched her ourselves and it's so hard to tell with some silkies. Out of the 4 that hatched I'm pretty certain 2 are boys and 1 is a girl, but this one has me stumped. I don't have a good pic of the partridge silkie roo we have. If this one turns out to be a boy too, we might keep him and get rid of the partridge one.
Our bantam EE from Meyer (Gilfy), bantam frizzle cochin (snowball), and Carter's head

You can see snowball's crazy feathers, and with her is our Welsummer (Summer)

This is our little frizzle bantam cochin, that we hatched ourselves. She was out of a Mille Fleur pen and the lady said she might be mottled so we named her Freckles, so far she's pure black. She may need a name change eventually.

Here they finally made it further into the grass. The two in the left foreground are the partridge silkie roo and another mixed roo (he'll be dinner when he gets big enough)

I took a short video too. It's uploading. I'll post when it's done.

We only have one Meyer girl of laying age but I don't see any pics of her eggs that I've uploaded before. I'll have to take one. She is the SLP in my post above and lays a nice medium size white egg. But I love our eggs so I'm positing a pic of them anyway. :)

I LOVE all these pretty rainbow egg basket pics!!!!

Nice setup you have there and chickens too! I wish my dog got along so well with our chickens. She does enjoy the poop patrol like yours though. Pretty gross, but it saves me some clean up.

She doesn't look too bad now, either.

(Gosh, I had to look really far into my uploads to find that pic! I guess I need to go get some fresh pictures of the older girls, too!)

Anyway, yeah, it's been broody madness here. Margie, my Silkie, broods at least once a month--usually more-- and then I have She Who brooding and one little Sebright bantam named Vespa who has been brooding solidly for about a month now without wanting to stop.

And the super-broody Sebright and two broody Wyandottes haven't even started up yet!

And yeah, thank goodness on that. All I can do now is make sure everyone is locked up safe at night and hope it decides to seek food elsewhere.
So pretty! Oh well, I should not complain about my broodies! You have a lot!

I hope you do not have anymore predator visits. So hard to lose them. They seem to get the best ones too.

$25's not bad for the eggs but not for mixed breeds... plus there will be boys in there that you have to deal with.
The little coop is 4X4 and an attached run of another 4X4 but it goes under the coop too so it's officially a 5X8. Does that make sense? I always forget how big my run is... maybe 16 X20? and the coop is 5X6. So I think it will all be good if I have under 20 chickens. Right now I have the 10 grown hens and 7 chicks but I really think Patty Patty is a boy. I'm going to take good pics and post on the Silkie thread. But her poof kinda goes back rather than up which I've read is boy. And her/his comb is just flat but wide. My first experience with one so I don't know much at all.

Sheesh. Little stinker. My Cochin is back to normal. 3 nights in the cage did it. Yes!!
Yeah, I am still unsure about getting hatching eggs and $25 seems a lot for mixed breeds. The way the setup is there, it is very easy for a rooster to jump the fence, so even if I wanted all pure breeds, I probably would not get them. Oh well, I'll keep looking.

That's a good size now for your chickens, so 4x4= 16 square feet + 5x8= 40 square feet so a total of 56 square feet, if you say 4 feet per chicken you cold have 14 or go with the 3 feet and you could have around 19? Works for me!

let's see run space 10 sq ft per bird, so you have 16x20 = 320 so you could have up to 32 in the run. Chicken City sounds like an awesome place for you birds. Plenty of space!!

OOh, sounds like a challenge I need to look in the archives for my egg pictures or take new ones.

Here are a few from my Meyer's girls. I have 21 Meyer hens laying now, well the non broody ones anyway.

Left to right Cuckoo Maran, Cuckoo Maran PR, GLW, RIR, WR, PR, SF and LBL

RIR, BLP, PR, CM, GLW and RIR
EE, EE, WR, Golden Buff, LBL, CM

Here they are on the egg skelter

My Golden Buff's egg is almost just as dark as my darkest CM's egg. I still want more marans and a welsummer or two and more EE's!!! Love the variety of colors. I have about 6 white egg layers and with the white eggs you get all white eggs, no shades like with brown layers, I love those different shades and speckles. etc.

Speaking of speckles, my eggs show more when washed, so pretty!

Next year my plan is to get more pastel egg layers and dark egg layers and bantams. I am so jealous of you guys with the bantams!

Thank you, all of you who have responded with your beautiful egg pics! Melabella do you recall what breeds layed the two on the far right?

Yes. those are from what Meyer sells as "Golden Buffs" One of my golden buffs named Sadie is the closest thing I have to a pet chicken. She always comes and says hello while I work in the barn, and is the friendliest.

Ooh, egg pics...
My first ever egg early this year. My PR next to a store bought XL.

Light brahma, Delaware, PR

Can't wait to get my marans and easter egger. Still hoping for a female ameraucana.
