I think they should give you a credit for the whole chick, not just the difference, especially since so many Roos have to be rehomed. You lose the bird and the potential for eggs. I would still take the credit no matter how small it may seem. You can use the credit on a future order. All you have to do is call Meyer or email them. That's what I did to report a loss within the first 48 hours. Pretty painless process.
I agree and I should have called for my credit but never did. I had one PR die right after I got them and one ended up a rooster. But for some odd reason I didn't call. Silly me
Had one of my girls lay their first egg today! I think it was one of the golden buffs. They are 18 weeks old today!e even though I already have hens it's still awesome to find that first egg!

congrats!!! It never gets old collecting eggs. Especially new ones! Like Christmas every day to me!!
I now have 5 laying! I got the cutest eggs from my Dominiques, today. Melissa laid her first the other day and second today. Desdemona laid her first today - only 20 grams! Is there a class smaller than Peewee? If so, that was it! They have to be 43 grams to be considered Small! Belle, my older EE, lays eggs that are about 45 grams now. I hope hers will get bigger, but, she has already been laying for 6 weeks. How long before pullet eggs get to be larger?
Sad news, I buried a chicken, today. One of my BRs had sour crop and, unfortunately, died overnight. So sad! She looked so peaceful when I found her this morning on the coop floor. My largest BA, Andre, had it too. She is doing much better, though. I think they both ate a little too much grass and not enough grit. Either that or it was the layer pellets that I just started them on.
5 layers!! Awesome! How old is Belle? I would think they would get bigger.
I'm so sorry about your BR. That must have been a horrible shock to find her. I'm glad your other one is doing better. Did you do anything for it or is Andre just getting better on her own? Thankfully I haven't had to deal with that yet. I wouldn't think pellets would cause the problem but maybe too much grass mixed with the pellets? :/
Thank you. I just took a photo of our eggs. 3 are from yesterday and 5 from today.

The largest ones are from golden buffs. The green are from Belle the EE and the tiny ones from my 2 Dominiques.
Nice!!!!
I have a dilemma...
Of my 2 buff silkies, 1 is definitely male (9 weeks old, waddles already). The other one has all the characteristics of a male & the comb is suspicious, but no waddles showing.
Another breeder just contacted me saying he has a 1 yr old definitely female that is available for sale. If I re-home my boy silkies (can't keep boys in my urban setting), then I will end up with no silkies at all...but the coop isn't finished yet. This silkie is a definite female. Also, there is always a chance that one or more of my new babies is sexed incorrectly (hopefully not).
Hmmm...what to do!
Oh gosh. I don't know. It might be hard to integrate 1 full grown Silkie with your ccl's and then your chicks too. Will you have a way to separate them in your run after its built and can the breeder wait until its ready? And can you send pics of your current silkies to the breeder you got them from for their opinion on sex?
