Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

Here is an updated pic of all my babies. The Silkies and Cream Legbars are not from Meyer's - everyone else is!

The only one that I have any concerns about being mis-sexed is Flora, the blue Orp...her comb is large and legs thicker than her Buff Orp hatch mate at this point. It could also be just an irregular growth spurt too.

I do think that both of my silkies are boys though :(

Here are body shots of both:

They are approximately 11 weeks old & SOMEONE is crowing. Coco has waddles already, but Brownie has the starts of them. Both crests are thick and bumpy.

My blue silkie did not start crowing until 22 weeks old. Just thought I'd let you know
Thx. I'm still confused about mine and have thought it was a cockerel from pretty early on but still no wattles. We'll see.

So Mayers is a good place to purchase chicks. Are their flocks 'pure'? By this I mean not much variation to the breeds. I am by no means going into the showing my girls (other than on here),

but I would like the birds to be very characteristic to the breed. And I wish to hatch my own chicks from these new birds, is why I am asking... That way I am not waiting impatiently for my girls to be delivered... LOL Only waiting impatiently for them to hatch, I can at least check on them daily in my incubator. Some one may have mentioned in the 708 pages, but I was not going to flip through.

Thanks for scratching through my post.
I think for the most part they are pretty close to what they 'should' look like. Certainly not all show winners but they look like the breed. There are always exceptions especially with no feathers on legs when they should have them or different comb but that sort of thing doesn't bother me. Then sometimes there are mistakes and they end up being prettier than the breed (at least to me)... like my Buff Brahma. see pic below:

Here she is in the fog...

Pretty different than the standard but she's a sweet bird and I think she's pretty.

I had ordered 27, got the 'surprise' astray shipment of someone elses 50.. .so ended up with a LOT of meyer chicks.
They are all easily recognizable for what they are. .. . is the lacing on the wyandottes perfect? no. But it's not terrible
either. . .The buffs are nice and large and look like buffs should. The 1 RIR is very easily differentiated from the four New
Hampshire reds (RIR is much darker). The Black australorps are all nice, lovely big birds. The EE all have ear puffs but
one, and that one has the very green legs. cochins have nicely feathered legs and feet and look like big cotton balls. . . .
absolutely no complaints on quality of the birds I got. And they have just started laying in the last week. . . a barred
rock was first . . .then we have someone else also laying, and today I busted a BA in the box and a short time later found
a surprisingly large egg for a first egg. Here's a few pics of them from today. . .. I'm very pleased with them.
I remember this story too!!!! That would have freaked me out getting that many and I don't have the room for all of them. So glad you were able to keep them!!

It was scary! I hadn't had chickens in years. . . and I was not set up for so many! I gave away nine, sold 15, gave away a cochin and two black australorps to my farrier, had one doa and five chick deaths and one unfortunate accident with a sheet of lumber a few weeks ago. . .
Let's see, I think my tally now stands:
4 buff orpingtons
4 gold laced wyandottes
3 silver laced wyandottes
3 white cochins
2 white crested black polish (they were the 'rare egg layer' birds)
1 white sultan (looks like a useless little bird and I dunno why they'd include it for an egg layer assortment)
1 dominique
6 barred rocks
8 easter eggers
2 RIR
4 New hampshire reds
and I don't remember how many black australorps, six I think.

Plus I had the 3 french black copper maran hens, one of those went TOTALLY broody, so I bought her some
fertile eggs and she hatched me out ten chicks. . .gave 8 of those away, so I have a blue marans and a buff
polish chick, that she is still mothering at 5+ weeks and I think both of those are girls, feather sexing said girls
anyways.

so . . .a lot. lol. added some pics to my post of them today when I went to give them some treats.
Great flock you have!!

Getting so many chicks would freak me out!

11 more days till my babies arrive!
WooHooo!!

Great pics. It looks like 2 boys to me also. I hope Flora is a 'she'!!

I posted my pics to the silkie thread and to my friends locally -1 who used to breed silkies...Coco is 100% rooster & Brownie is probably hen! Still waiting to see on her :)

Yay for Brownie!

I won't quit holding my breath until she lays an egg though!

Also, I was a little worried about Flora, but I found some other pics of Blue Orps at the same age - both pullet & cockrel and she looks more like pullet. YEAH!!!! Again, I won't quit holding my breath until she lays an egg for me!!!

These silly birds are causing me grey hair!!!

I just love your flock! Hatch day is today? Yay! Can't wait to see your new babies!

Don't forget those that don't give an egg every day usually lay longer than a year. That plays a big part of my decisions too. I personally don't want any super layers that I have to do something with in a year and a half.

I used small PVC feeders for chicks and had one climb up in it. Luckily I noticed pretty quick and was able to get it out. Stupid chickens!

The farm is coming along nicely. My late tomato plants are much bigger than I expected and even have a few buds on them. We may get a tomato or two after all.
Our goat will be ready to breed next month already. I need to get on finding a stud for her.

You're so right about the "super egg layers" I forgot about that. I'm thinking that I will wait until the spring before I make any flock changes now. It makes no sense to get rid of my young flock before winter. If I hang on to the young ones ones we should have plenty of eggs throughout the winter. I was hoping to get more chicks in the spring but I guess I will wait instead to see how winter production pans out first.
