What type of comb does she have? Is it possible, since she's clean-faced, that she's a splash Orpington? I don't remember what all you ordered, so just wondering.

Love both of their coloring too. Roha makes me want an Exchequer Leghorn too. We've been getting no white eggs from our 6 white egg layers lately, only browns and greens. My brown leghorns are having an ugly molt. at least it is still warm outside.

Peppy does seem like such a character! He's kind the coolest looking face with all that puffiness!And my darling Peppy (not Meyers). Still trying to manage puberty. He's crowing but still pretty scared of the girls 90% of the time.

We go from no grandchildren to two in the same year!!! Crazy!!!
My oldest son and his wife are now expecting too, which is great since the baby cousins will only be a few months apart. My DIL is only about 4 weeks along so far. My other DIL will be 18 weeks along and we get to join her for her ultra sound next week!
I may end up holding off on new chicks until the Spring of 2016, I really wanted to get some this Spring but I want to have baby chicks when the grandkids get to be a year old so they can have fun with them too. Maybe a couple in 2015 and a few more the following Spring? I need to sell some of the current chickens first to make room.

It had squatted for me about a week or two before that and what sounded like an egg song and clucking like a hen. No doubt about it now though. Fingers crossed for you that yours is a girl!.
I sprout peas and lentils for my flock. I do it in a quart jar and put in about 1/2c total. I usually have 2 jars going at all times so I always have one ready.
Had to do surgeries on 4 birds for bumblefoot. I'll be doing a post on my blog in a couple days. Stupid rain!
A couple girls have eye boogers the last couple days and one was fluffed up and not looking herself today. Gave them some vetrx. Hope they pull through ok.
Our pug had her puppies. We were expecting 3 maybe 4 but she ended up having 7!
I love that you 'try out' all the breeds to see what they're like. Why do the Polish and Appenzellers make you paranoid? I have the Brabanter so I feel like I have that kind of look covered. So far my Brabanters are such characters and would recommend them highly. But they're only 6 months old so we'll see.What type of comb does she have? Just her. I wanted white egg layers, but knowing how often they are not friendly, I wanted to try an assortment and see which I liked, personality-wise. So I have one each of Meyer's Exchequer Leghorn, Ancona, Golden Campine, Egyptian Fayoumi, Light Brown Leghorn, and Silver Lakenvelder. Honestly, for personality, I think I like miss Roha the most out of all of them. Close second would be Marama the Fayoumi, such a personality on her! I love my Rangi (the Ancona), but she gets bullied and doesn't seem to fit in well with a mixed flock.My Campine, Ihi, makes me laugh so much, she's so funny! The Lakenvelder and LB Leghorn are both too flighty for my liking, though. They are super pretty, but not very friendly.
Out of those, I would get an Exchequer, a Campine, and a Fayoumi again if I was going for white eggers. I haven't tried Andalusians, Sumatra, Hamburgs, or Buttercups, so I might give them a try as well. Polish and Appenzellers have me a bit paranoid, so not sure about them. And Dorkings, they can lay anything from white to light brown, so I definitely will get them again but not for their egg color--just because they are such darlings!

Wow, I didn't know about LLV or that there was a big diff. in hatchery vs. breeder Appenzellers. After looking at the breeder birds I see what you are talking about and yes, the breeder birds are quite nice looking! I like the little crest too.Well, if it's a pea comb, it would have to be an Ameraucana (or possibly Easter-egger, although they are usually more colorful). Since beards are dominant, it's definitely possible for a clean faced bird to come out of bearded parents.
For two different reasons. I'm a bit concerned about bringing Polish into my flock because I have heard they can get picked on pretty badly as a result of their huge crests. I have a couple birds that don't have crests that are picked on enough, so I just don't want to risk that.
As for Appenzellers, I'm put off by them because I really like the high-quality ones with pointed crests, not rounded ones. I'm not generally a snob when it comes to hatchery versus breeder quality birds, but if I wanted to buy a bird with a rounded crest, there are plenty of other options. If I'm investing in Appenzellers, I want pointy crests. Another big factor, probably more significant to me than the crest thing, is that the majority of the Appenzellers in the country are carrying what is called Lymphoid Leukosis virus, which I don't think I want to risk bringing into my flock. There are two strains, one that only is transmitted from hen to offspring and one that can spread from hen to other chickens in the flock. I don't know that Meyer's has LLV in their Appenzeller stock, but that possibility combined with the imperfect crests is why I don't want to get one of them from Meyer's. I would much rather invest in eggs from someone whose Appenzellers are tested LLV-free and get birds that appear like I would expect an Appenzeller to look.
Some day I'd like to get a breeder Buff Brahma. It was the first breed I fell in love with and got two from Meyer and the one ended up being a rooster and while the other was pretty (the Nancy Brahma like a calico cat rather than buff) I want a true Buff Brahma. I like to have a list always going.
Oh! This just struck a chord with me. I think the same thing! I love my hatchery birds, but I think we all have a soft spot for one breed that just must be better in quality. I laugh at myself for being snobby when I tell Peppy how beautiful he is! Then I look at my RIR from Meyer and she is so not a specimen! I still love her anyway.
