They are so adorable. I can't wait to see them grown up! And I love their names!!
Thanks for your opinion on my 'girls'.
Since these are my first chickens I'm still learning and will try to be more patient in waiting to see the sex of them!

Just curious about my BB roo... His beak doesn't close all the way. Not crossed but the top seems shorter than the bottom and there is always a gap between the two.
He seems to have trouble picking up food up off of a hard surface but has no trouble eating out of the feeder or drinking. Has anyone seen this before?
I don't see how anyone will want to breed him because of this defect because I'm sure it can be passed on. I'll try to rehome him on craig's list and hopefully he is a good/well mannered boy and someone will want him to protect their flock.

Oh all your chickies are adorable!!!! Nancy I can't believe yours are so big already! I get mine next week! I ordered from mypetchicken back in February, but I assume they are comin from Meyers. I'm so excited, we are working on the coop, but still have alot work....

My chicks from Meyers came this morning. The tracking from the PO is useless, according to it they haven't left Mansfield yet. Of the fifteen I ordered, 5 were DOA. One was down and out, but still limp, so I put it under the heat in a small dish, 6 hours later, its alive & moving & eating, so I have hopes it will make it. But my remaining Spitzhauben isn't doing well and there is one other one that doesn't look real good. So far its been the black sumatras and the spitzhaubens that fared the worse. Only one of the bigger chicks so far were dead. Can I complain about the PO now? Next time I order I'll try expedited.

Silkie Chicken Little

Here are my mypetchicken/Meyer chicks! They are 3 weeks old now and most are doing great! 1 has a very crooked beak, and 1 silkie seemed to be weak for the first 2 weeks, she is thriving now.
I just placed an order for 6 EE's they will be here in June!
I'm loving seeing everyone's chicks!

With my Fancy's I ordered 4 different breed of Fancy's, 2 girls and 2 boys. Well when we took the two in my pic above to the County Fair the Black with brown one went to open class as a girl but to my suprise after judging they said it was a HIM. He never showed signs of a Roo at home so being a new chicken owner I didn't have a clue. I just knew I bought HIM as a HER. But still love him, hes so funny.
Wow, I bet you were surprised. That's funny!

I think you have a Mrs. Puff.

Pipsqueak, I'm not sure on anymore, 'cause he's looking less like a he now than the last time...

Agree with you. That's great if you have one of the female black and white EE's, I heard it is rare. Pipsqueak looks a lot like my CW still, just with less feathers

They are getting so big Nancy, how are they doing outside in the coop. Do they still use the Brinsea or have you had that off for awhile?

Greenegg and Pipz: adorable chicks, love all those pics!!! Congrats!

I'm sorry you lost so many, Yeah complain, I sure would! You would think they'd handle them better knowing there are live animals in the box. I hope your others that you have left do well and thrive.

Trefoil, that's aweful! Poor babies, I wonder what why so many casualties?

Greenegg, those EE's are sooo stinkin cute! Why are they all silver colored? I thought they were supposed to be brown? Not that I know anything.....

I put the chicks out in the coop today. They have a separate area in the run for during the day, they are 2 weeks and a couple days now. It is hot today and they are really enjoying themselves. I'll post pics later of the setup. I also moved their brooder into the coop for nighttime with the Brinsea. I took off work to get it all done.

I also gave up on having sand in the coop. I got tired of all the sifting in such a big coop. I can see how it would work in a smaller coop, but I decided to take the easy way out and I bought bags of pine shavings and scraped out all the sand from the coop into the run and added all the shavings to the coop.

So my new way of doing their bedding is the deep litter method. It sounds like so much less work!

The chickens are having a great time dust bathing in all the sand in the run and they seem confused about the pine shavings in the coop. I figured I would add the chicks the same day as I changed out their bedding so maybe all the changes will help them focus less on the chicks. The chicks are not bothered by them, but the bigger girls are just amazed and keep trying to get to them. The chicken wire though is doing a great job of keeping the separated.
