Meyer Hatchery Chicken pics anyone??

We are so excited to have one of each, of course! I am jealous too, I keep telling my husband that he never spoiled me like my son's spoil their wives! What's a push present? That's a new one for me too. I am starting to feel older now with all these new ideas.

I just had a baby shower for each and went through each pregnancy with the normal nausea and swelling. I enjoyed being pregnant each time.

At the gender reveal party, my son and daughter-in-law had a big box that was labeled "Is it a Stud Muffin or a Cupcake?" After we all guessed, she opened the box to muffins inside. She also had clues around the house too, so we'd keep guessing until we saw inside the box. It was real cute. Our other son told us the day that they found out, it was frustrating having to wait for this one, but we now know, so all is good. Plus, I guessed right this time, I was thinking boy.

Great gifts! I love the eggs, so many varieties. So glad your olive egger laid the right color too! Your EE egg is such a pretty color. We got 5 eggs yesterday, so they're getting better,
That's a cute idea for the gender reveal. I had only heard of making a cake decorated in either pink or baby blue flowers and then people know at dessert time. Yup, just normal shower for me and no diamond bracelet for pushing a kid out. My present after pushing was taking care of a baby for the next 21 years!!

Here's another one for you that wasn't around when I was young

.... Around here when it's prom time the boys can't just ask the girls to the prom anymore.... they have to do it in a showy way. Lots of different ways like presenting the girl with 5 cupcakes at school with the letters PROM? on them, a big showy thing in a classroom during school, after school in the parking lot is a big one by writing it in chalk in front of their car or some even get a teacher involved and it turns into an incredibly elaborate ordeal. Of course it's all taped and put on Facebook too.
I guess I'm showing my age because all I can think of is, sheesh if they do this for the prom what do they have to do to propose marriage??? Oh well.

@LynnEBC
Congrats on the grandbabies! How exciting!!
I've never done a gender reveal party either but have had many friends do so.
We are trying to conceive our 5th and final but boy it's been a challenge! We were always lucky before that each child (16,13,7,2) was one try and done lol but after my 2yo we tied my tubes, then decided we wanted another and went to California to untie!! Ya our families all think we're nuts lol
So having two tubal surgeries and being 37 seem to be slowing the process down lol
Thats actually why I got chickens in the first place. To keep me busy while TTC lol

My eldest and I tried clearing out lower yard of elephant grass so the girls would have more room to explore. I caught my two older ones across our private road by where a wild Roo is and I had to herd them back

Here they are exploring after we got some done
Wow, wishing the most success on a 5th baby!! I agree with keeping active and your mind off the 'job' that's when most things happen :)
I had trouble conceiving my first and as soon as I gave notice at my job I got pregnant the next month!! It was just so stressful I think it was keeping me from conceiving.
So jealous of your chickies foraging like that. Mine won't be out until hawks leave or spring comes an there's places to hie again. It's awful right now.

Love the Christmas loot! Also pretty eggs, love the OE. So how did the feast of seven fishes turn out? I know that is traditional Italian Christmas dinner, would love to experience one in my lifetime, yum! Hopefully I didn't confuse who was making this feast.
Pretty egg from your favorite, but I will never tell the others
wink.png

Congrats on the grand babies, so is a push present given to the women during pushing?
roll.png

oh gosh hopefully your girls stay put with that rooster on the loose!

I didn't get any chicken gifts this year, which is fine. I have a few favorite little things we have found at thrift stores. One is an egg timer shaped like a chicken another is a cast iron trivet with a ceramic tile and the tile has a chicken painted on it.
7 fishes dinner was great. We start with fried jumbo shrimp and scallops, then a calamari and scungilli salad, caesar salad, then crabs and spaghetti an also an anchovy gravy all with fresh pasta and then smelts. So technically we are missing a fish but seriously we just can't eat anymore after that. We used to do mussels an clams too but stopped that about 5 years ago. But I am so sick of cooking and prepping I barely eat. I get to finally have all the leftovers on the 26th! Yum. I'm not Italian but my mom married one and I married one so that kind of makes us honorary Italians. Haha

A push present is basically a gift from daddy to mom after delivery. I told my other half I had 4 and never got a push present

he said that I had Csections and Didnt push. I told him that I should have two presents each because of the hard recovery lol
LOL, I was wondering what happens with a C section!

Don't feel bad Nancy, I'm 29 and have never heard of a push present and courtship was not elaborate in my high school twelve years ago either. These last few days the hawks have been watching from a nearby tree or flying overhead during free range time. This morning I was standing with a metal garden rake wondering if it would be a crime if I attacked one if it swooped down, but they never did.

Ugh I finally got the holiday ick that's been going round our family, went to bed last night with a sore throat and woke up feeling like crud. I still attempted to muck out the run as it was getting quite smelly from all the moisture, plus it was trash day. The bags were so heavy and one almost spilled in our driveway when I was trying to lift it in the bin. Afterwards I felt like I was going to throw up or pass out. Husband finally agreed we can at least put up plastic over the run.

Christmas Eve, Day and the day after we're very nice though! I got a pair of Carharts winter coveralls from the husband as well as a pink plaid western style shirt he picked out lol, though its a bit too tight in the bust. I'm not really a pink kinda girl, but I do like it with brown and the overalls are chocolate.

Also this week I fell in love with the stray cat that has hung around our and the neighbors' yards for over a year, maybe even two. I was trying to gain its trust to take it to a shelter since it likes to stalk my chickens, instead I gained its affection. It is such a good snuggler and lets me carry it around the yard like a baby. The husband won't let me keep it though :/ I did try to take it to the shelter on Monday but they won't accept them unless you arrange it with the animal warden who had just got off duty. So I left her a message on Tuesday morning, she didn't get back to me and I imagine she's had the holiday weekend off. But yeah if this cat had opposable thumbs it would be holding up boom box outside my window. Instead it sits on the garden gate waiting for me every morning and night. I don't think it would do nearly as well with chicks in the spring as our indoor cat does, this one has already tried pouncing at the full grown chickens but backs off if the flap or peck or make a sound. I keep on saying "Kitty! My chickens!" and it backs off. And of course Baby (the Buff Orp) is jealous that I hold the furry creature ;)

X2 Good luck conceiving Kona! I can't imagine having more than two and we're pretty sure we don't want more than our one. But yeah chicks and pets definitely fill that void plus my little nephew who just started crawling and clapping :)

One of the reasons I got chickens was because I have one boy off in college in NY and the other is going next year. I still need something to mother so now I have it!!
Sorry you have the 'ick' Hope it passes soon. I love pink and brown together. Bet it looks cute together! ;)
The stray kitty sounds cute. Maybe if it's controlling the mouse population your DH won't mind if it sticks around?

Hey gang,

So we still have been wondering about the breed of a couple of our black/brown girls. We thought cornish, but now I am wondering specifically about two of them. Does anyone have a GLW from Meyer and if so could you post some pics.

Here is the girl in question, I am leaning more towards a GLW., the Meyer person thought GLW or Barnevelder. She lays cream colored eggs.

Here is a shot of her with two of the cornish, you can see the difference in feather patterns.

Here is a shot of the Cornish feather patterns

And now I have to vent for a second, last week sucked the big one. I rear ended someone last week and crunched my BF truck. He was not too happy about that, bent the bumper in. I wasn't injured, the lady went to urgent care for a concussion and a neck injury, she is claiming. She also disclosed to me that she had just spent 8 months recovering from whiplash. The insurance company said his rates will go up, but I will pay the difference. The other thing I found out is I might be facing another surgery, this time for my wrist. Had MRI done of hand and neck due to pain and swelling in my right arm. The results are not good, have osteoarthritis in my thumb and the bones in my forearm didn't grow to same length, one bone is longer than the other and is pushing on other bones in my hand. I also have a tear in some ligaments as well. From what I have read the procedure I might have to go through is an Ulnar Shortening Osteotomy, basically they go in a shave down the longer bone or cut out a piece to make the bones the same length. I think then it is either a cast or pins and cage, inactivity for something like 6 weeks. I am in process of scheduling with four different hand surgeons to see what my options are. It is caused by several things, fracture in the growth plate of wrist and the bones don't grow evenly, undue load and pressure on wrists (such as gymnastics) and trauma's from falls. Well I have had all three of these things, plus a ski thumb injury and a green stick break to my forearm. Not sure how to deal with the news right now, just feel a bit discouraged.
GLW's have a rose comb and from the pics, it looks like yours has a single comb?? Barnevelders do have a single comb, however, they normally lay a dark brown egg. My Meyer Barnie does and she doesn't really look like your bird in the picture.

She's a pretty girl, but I'm not sure what she could be!

The chicken fountain is technically a Christmas gift. And yes, it's set up. I really love it. There is a very small leak, but I should not have set it up while it was dark and raining. Lol. I was desperate! I haven't had time to address the leak, but I think it will be a simple fix. I kinda wish I would not have gotten the remote additive system, because I'm more likely to add ACV from inside and it would be easy enough to do without the system. Oh well...if anyone wants one...
Yeah, setting it up while dark and rainy I imagine would be a little difficult. I do find that my chickens do drip water while drinking, so I am glad it is outside in the run. If it is raining outside half of it is under the covered patio area that they have. I had considered the additive system too, but decided against it. I guess it would be good for people that have it setup where it is hard to get to the top to add ACV, etc. to it. I can get to mine pretty easily.

Around the age of 37, 11 years ago, I had considered having a reversal too, my daughter was around 10 yrs old and I really wanted another one. I never did have the reversal though, good for you and best of luck! I loved being pregnant and being a mom. It took me a couple years but eventually I became content with the 3 kids I have who are now 25, 23 and 21. Two boys and a girl and 2 grandkids on the way, I cannot complain!

I don't know who was taking about waters for chicks, here is a shot from the DIY Thread....

That is a neat little waterer. I think it was me talking about it. I will probably stick with the regular chicken nipples since they need to learn so they can use the big system that we have.

A push present is basically a gift from daddy to mom after delivery. I told my other half I had 4 and never got a push present

That's so true about all the ways people are coming up with ways to ask someone out on a date or even how some bday parties are for kids. Some of the 1 year birthday parties are huge events and I wonder how parents will top these parties each year.

I have heard of gender reveal parties also that have a cake and when they cut the cake it is either blue inside or pink. I thought that was pretty neat!

Same reasons here too! All my kids had grown up and didn't need me as much, so "chickens" made sense.

My cousin did a reveal thing for her pregnancy. They stuffed helium balloons, either blue or pink, in a giant box and wrapped it. They then went to the beach in Washington and video taped opening the box and having the balloon fly up. They then posted the video on their face book page. LOL on the prom and your push present.

A push present is basically a gift from daddy to mom after delivery. I told my other half I had 4 and never got a push present :( he said that I had Csections and Didnt push. I told him that I should have two presents each because of the hard recovery lol

Lol thanks. I don't have kids and being over 45 it is unlikely to happen. At this point, I want no part in getting up every two hours to feed.

LOL, I was wondering what happens with a C section!

Yummy sounding food, what is Scungili salad? My BF is italian and has a big family, however they do not follow the tradition of the seven fishes dinner. I wish they did so I could benefit:rolleyes:

Yikes on the hawk! Sounds like the cat has adopted you and good luck trying not to fall in love. I miss cats, had to give mine to my sister when I moved in with my BF as he is allergic. We could use barn cat for all the mice we have here. We succumbed to a cold as well, nothing worse than being sick around the holidays! Feel better, oh and I love my Carharts, I have three coats and two lined work pants. That is my chicken gear!

One of the reasons I got chickens was because I have one boy off in college in NY and the other is going next year. I still need something to mother so now I have it!!

The stray kitty sounds cute. Maybe if it's controlling the mouse population your DH won't mind if it sticks around?

lol on the mothering thing, I am a caregiver by nature and my BF guessed right that I would totally get into chickens. It has beena great outlet!

Thanks, can you post a pic of your Barnie from Meyers, we have four other dark brown blackish girls and would like to compare to yours for reference. Thanks!

Oh and went to a wedding yesterday for my BF family and we got Christmas gifts. I got some Chicken loot. Here is a shot of a cute basket I got from his mom, an ornament for his dad & wife and there is a third piece not pictured. His mom gave me some paper whites in a vase that has some roosters painted on it, it is beautiful. Had to leave it at her place due to going to the wedding, didn't want them to freeze.

I think I started my post and forgot to hit submit and then you posted before me. So thanks for clarification it was you. I am on like page 600 of 2000+ pages of the DIY Thread and it is amazing what people have come up with, so I wanted to share. I that was pretty smart for a DIY save money project.

Edited cause my grammar was horrible!

Ill be receiving my 10 chicks the last week of April. Golden laced wyandottes, Easter eggers, and barnevelders along with the meal maker. So far I've been doing good at distracting myself from the "countdown" lol
