Oh, gosh, she is lovely! The others are, too, but wow!
Thanks! I was out there with them for hours today. I just don't get tired of watching them. Our 2 EE's do look similar and I'm glad Cleo is staying brown and I was bummed at first she didn't have a beard but I think her face is pretty. And since my partridge rock died at least I have a brown one. And yes, BeeBee's beard is crazy full! They are beautiful Nancy!!! Cleo's coloring looks so much like my Maddie. Mine does have some beard though, I think your BeeBee stood in line twice and took Cleo's beard too. Wow, that is a big beard! Pipsqueak is looking like a little chicken now, lots of feathers.
It's neat to see your BA too, I can see what mine will look like. Her name is Yahoo now, changed from Blackie. We have a Google too. My daughter wants to name a future chicken, Bing. We're a family of nerds, can you tell?
Yours really look like big chickens too, they really do not look much younger then mine in the pics.
and Marrock is adorable too!!!
Thanks. I can't wait to see what she ends up looking like! Most people just overlook her but I think she's interesting looking.Oh, gosh, she is lovely! The others are, too, but wow!![]()
I've never had a problem like that yet but read about Blu Kote. You spray it on and it helps heal the wound and has a bad taste so others won't peck them. Other than isolation I wouldn't know what else to suggest. But I am a real newbie so I don't know from experience what to suggest.Having some picking problems yesterday and todaySomehow Daffodil (Buff Orpington) broke one of her tail feathers, and it started bleeding. Despite the fact that we got it all cleaned up and put corn starch on it to stop the bleeding, they've still been picking at her... She now has 6 or 7 broken tail feathers.![]()
The only way I could think to stop the picking was to string some dried cranberries on a piece of wire and hang it from the top of their brooder just low enough where they can reach it. So far so good. I still worry about them picking her more though. She doesn't spend enough time under the red heat light to make the red feather nubs less noticeable.
Is there any other way to keep them from picking at her, other than what I'm already doing? At this point I worry that she'll be tailless if they keep this up. 6-7 broken feathers in a little over 24 hours is a lot.
They're all so adorable but the tail on Roha is too cute!
Both Ambers are pretty birds!I love my Amber's grey wings/tail. I think her grey beard is a crack up. We call her our bearded lady. Even though we have a couple other bearded breeds hers is the most noticeable being such a different color.
I forgot to ask about opening the next boxes... did you do it yesterday and what was their reaction? Both Ambers are pretty birds!
Pip- Cute chicks as usual.
Nancy- That sure is a big under bite on your roo. That's great if you found a home for him.
I am now wondering about my white rock. She has some hefty legs for such a little chick, but not much comb development. Does anyone know if this is common for the breed?
I opened the nest boxes a few days ago. I'm not sure of their reaction though. The chick brooder is in the coop too, so maybe they are just not seeing that they are opened? Not sure, I was expecting to see a big reaction, but it was disappointing. The bigger chicks stay outside in the fenced garden most of the day that I am home to keep them separate from the little ones. The little ones get the whole run and coop during the day. So when they are finally together it seems the big ones just want to chase the little ones around and so they still have not noticed that the boxes are opened. I wish I got all my chicks in the very 1st order, integration of 2 different ages is not fun.I forgot to ask about opening the next boxes... did you do it yesterday and what was their reaction?
I thought about your girls as I was watching mine slurp worms down... are they still turning up their beaks to worms?
And the BA's are so pretty in the sunlight; shiny green color! Both of mine have nice dispositions and my neighbor's BA's let me pet them when I'm taking care of them and they were rarely handled as chicks. I'm glad I got them. But then again, I'm not unhappy with any of mine. Well, except that one is a roo with an underbite. But at least it's not one of my pullets with an underbite.
I may post a pic of the roo to get some other opinions of whether the beak will get worse because the forever home is about 2 hours away and I don't want to make the 4 hr. trip if they are just going to cull him.
Are my girls the only ones afraid of a corn cob? Silly chickens; they love corn but they're scared to get it off the cob. I left one in there today but I have a feeling it will be left untouched.
